Amazon Prime members have the chance to see PROJECT HAIL MARY before it officially releases nationwide!
“Big news, everyone: Prime members have exclusive access to see PROJECT HAIL MARY early in theaters,” co-director and producer Phil Lord said in a YouTube video, announcing that Prime members can now buy tickets to March 16 screenings.
PROJECT HAIL MARY officially premieres March 20, meaning Amazon Prime members will have the opportunity to see the movie four days early.
The movie, based on the bestselling novel of the same name, stars Ryan Gosling as astronaut Ryland Grace, “who awakens on a spacecraft with amnesia. Grace quickly works out he’s on a mission to save Earth and he must engage the help of another lifeform he names Rocky to complete his work,” per The Hollywood Reporter.
Andy Weir, the book’s author, told Space.com he’s “really psyched” to see his story brought to life on the big screen.
“I’m a producer on this film so I’m involved in giving notes and stuff this time so it’s kinda cool. It’s nice to pretend I’m a bigshot,” he joked. “But I was really psyched [to see the first trailer]. I always try to put myself in the mind of the viewer for movie stuff or reader for book stuff and try to blank my mind and imagine I don’t know anything about the story.”
Weir praised Gosling’s performance, saying, “He’s got a good natural understanding of comedy and timing. He was really engaged, and he’d want to talk to me every day about scenes and what’s going through Grace’s mind.”
“I was there for the shoot and on set all the time. That was really cool. I got to be a Hollywood mover and or a shaker,” he continued. “They actually offered to assign me an assistant. I said no, I don’t have enough for an assistant to do. There’s almost nothing more useless on a set than the writer. Although there was a lot more work for me to do than I expected. It was awesome.”
While speaking at last year’s San Diego Comic-Con, Gosling shared, “[The movie] took me places I’ve never been, it showed me things I had never seen. It was as heartbreaking as it was funny…This story is about a scared guy who has to do something impossible. Now, I was a scared guy who had to do something impossible, just trying to turn this into a movie.”
Tickets for the Amazon Prime exclusive screenings of PROJECT HAIL MARY are now available through Fandango on a first-come, first-serve basis.
