Houston Astros infielder Brice Matthews has peace in life because he knows “God’s love” for him is everlasting.
“I have peace knowing God’s love for me never changes,” Matthews said, according to Christhlete.
From Humble, Texas, the athlete grew up in church but didn’t understand much about God until high school.
“I’ve always grown up going to church, and I didn’t really understand much until high school, when I wanted to go on my own and me and my friends would go to church and learn,” Matthew told His Huddle in 2023. “I really started growing in college when I’d go to Bible study with my teammates and FCA. It gave me a clearer understanding of the Bible and just understanding the word.”
He relied heavily on his faith as he has faced several tragic losses in his life.

“I have lost people in my life that I thought I’d never lose, and leaning on my faith helped me be in a better position mentally,” he said.
After he erupted in his junior year of college at Nebraska, Matthews was drafted by the Houston Astros, which is just a short drive from his hometown of Humble.
“My faith and belief in God allow me to be free and know that whatever happens at the end of the day, God loves me and it’s all good,” he declared. “I just hope that I can give people the belief that they can do anything through Christ and just continue to have the faith.”
He made his debut with the Astros last year.
“7/11/2025 – A day I will forever cherish! The Lord has blessed me in many ways. From being a little kid coming and watching these games to seeing many big moments happen in this stadium. To now being able to play there it’s unbelievable! Can’t thank enough people that helped me get here. It takes a village,” he posted on his Instagram.
Not quite a year later, Matthews is still with the Astros and has become a key player in the lineup. A big reason for that is due to the fact that he says his “prayers so I know I’m protected soon as I walk in.”
As Matthews continues to cement his place in Houston’s lineup, he takes the field with a sense of freedom, playing not just for the game itself but to inspire others with the message that they, too, can overcome any obstacle through faith.
