Brandon Lake’s “Cowboy Church” at CMA Fest this month was a huge hit.
“Something special happened at the riverfront during CMA Fest last year, and I knew we had to do it again,” Lake said. “We’re calling it ‘Cowboy Church.’ Not the kind of church with suits and pews…the kind for the wanderers, the worn-out, the misfits, the ones who aren’t sure they belong anywhere.”
On Sunday, Lake brought out CeCe Winans, Dan + Shay and Lainey Wilson to help him lead worship, Relevant reported.
Winans and Lake performed “I Know a Name” and “Come Jesus Come.” Dan + Shay performed “She Believes in Me.” Wilson and Lake sang their song, “The Jesus I Know.”
Lake had no idea how many people would come to attend the event. He was driving in the area nearby when he saw lines of people wrapping around buildings.
“Is that [line] to get into breakfast somewhere or something?” Lake asked.
The person with him said, “Nah, dude. That’s for cowboy church.”
“No way. There’s no way,” Lake said.

It turns out hundreds of people waited hours before the set opened so they could go to Lake’s Cowboy Church.
One person commented on Lake’s Instagram post, “We live in west TN went to bed at 1am got up at 3am and left the house about 3:45 drove 1.5 hours and was in line by 5:30am and would do it again and again!!! You are making an impact @brandonlake even for my 7year old who was there the whole time!”
Nashville’s Riverfront Amphitheater can hold 6,800 people. There were so many attendees that many people were not allowed in.
“I drove over 4 hours and didn’t even get in! Yay Revival!!!” one person commented.
Another wrote, “got there at 4:15 am to be first in line it was so worth it😭🩷.”
As Winans and Lake sang, one attendee passed out, and Lake stopped the music.
“This is more important.” He said a prayer: “In Jesus’ name — revive him right now. Give him strength.”
Winans quietly sang while the medical team assessed the patient.
“Let’s give it up for our medical team, officers,” Lake said afterward. “On that note — drink your water. God is a healer, but we’ve got to be smart.”
He later shared on his Instagram about the event and its huge crowd.,
“I am SPEECHLESS!! Words don’t even do justice to what happened this morning. God is so good! Cowboy Church LETS GO!!! Will remember this forever. 🤯🤠🙌🏼🙏🏼”
And that’s how Lake’s simple worship gathering turned into one of the most memorable moments of CMA Fest.
