San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy explained why he is unapologetically himself whether he’s on or off the field.
“Honestly, you want the truth, because this is the truth. I’m not going to just say, you know, like a worldly answer of, you know, I look in the mirror every night, and I tell myself I’m good. It’s none of that. This is who God has called me to be. And I’ve believed that from day one,” Purdy declared on an episode of the “Sports Spectrum Podcast.”
“I believe that Jesus Christ did come down and die for my sins and rose again,” he continued. “And He’s living and sitting beside God on the throne. And so it’s not just some story, some fairy tale thing. It’s real. It allows me to stay level-headed and real with life. And I know what my purpose is: that He has allowed me to play my game and has allowed me to play football at this level.”

Purdy once again lived out his faith late last year when he gifted disabled military veterans and their families free cars.
Alongside Toyota, Purdy surprised “families with incredible holiday gifts, including Toyota vehicles, Rivalries jerseys, and tickets to an upcoming 49ers game, creating unforgettable moments for all,” the 49ers reported.
“We appreciate every single one of you guys sitting here and for what you guys have done and what you guys stand for, and we look up to you just for your fight and your courage — we appreciate all of you guys,” Purdy said in a video on X.
Purdy and the Niners faced the Seattle Seahawks yesterday in a 13-3 loss, which resulted in the Seahawks winning the “NFC West title and the conference’s No. 1 playoff seed — along with its first-round bye,” per NBC Sports.
This means the Niners’ road to a Super Bowl will be much more challenging, but head coach Kyle Shanahan said his team is “ready for it.”
“It would have been nice to have both home games and get a bye, but it is what it is. And this team has been through a lot this year, and now we have to do it the hard way,” he said after the game.
For Purdy, the wins and the losses don’t define him. His identity rests in what Jesus did for him and all believers on the cross.
