7TH HEAVEN Star Kept This In Mind While Playing Big Brother
By Movieguide® Contributor
Barry Watson joined Bev Mitchell, Dave Gallagher and Mack Rosman on the “Catching Up With The Camdens” to discuss his time on 7TH HEAVEN and what he tried to teach his former castmates while he was on the show.
“Maybe I’m wrong that you guys actually did kind of look up to me like an older brother and always, as goofy as I was and whatever, I always knew I was somewhat of a role model for you guys,” Watson said. “I was always on time for work, I always knew my lines, I always tried to show up and be a good example for you guys because, you know, I don’t know why but it seemed like a good idea.”
Watson played the trio’s older brother, Matt Camden, and his decisions certainly paid off, as Mitchell, Gallagher and Rosman all agreed that his behavior on set influenced how they would work on sets for their careers moving forward. Beyond just being a professional who is ready for the day, they saw how Watson interacted with the crew and always wanted to emulate him.
“I think that was the big lesson that I did take from you was that you were always present. You had a presence on set, everybody loved you, [and] you were always friendly and fun and laughing and having a good time,” Gallagher said. “Not every day is fun or great, but you were always, like, positive, in a good mood ready to have fun…And to extend that relationship to the crew and not just to us was something I took from you.”
“I always tried to take that to other sets and always treat the crew like friends who were having the day with you and needed to laugh and have fun,” he continued.
Watson’s desire to include the crew in the fun of the show comes from him having to grind to land his first major role rather than landing a huge gig right away. He knows Hollywood his hard work for most people, so he looks to make the job enjoyable for everyone, rather than just focusing on himself. It’s amazing to see how this mindset impacted those who worked with him and extended into productions he was never a part of.
Movieguide® previously reported on the “Catching Up With The Camdens” podcast
In the first episode of the “Catching Up With the Camdens” podcast, 7TH HEAVEN actors Beverly Mitchell, Mack Rosman and David Gallagher discussed their start as child actors and how things have changed in the industry in the past three decades.
“Actually, I feel like what’s sad now is so many people who are getting in the industry right now, they don’t get that experience [in front of a casting director],” Mitchell said. “Like the joy for me was auditioning and being able to, like, go in and have those relationships with the casting directors and, like, being able to express yourself that way and show who and what we are.”
“Now everything’s self-tape and, like, you find so many actors that, like, they talk to themselves in the mirror for so long that they forget how to interact, it’s weird,” she continued.
The 7TH HEAVEN cast reunited earlier this year at ’90s Con.
“Beyond grateful for these crazy humans that I call family!” Mitchell wrote on Instagram. “To say that this was needed was an understatement.
“My heart is full and I have been so blessed to love and laugh with them!” she continued.
Mitchell, Gallagher and Rosman want their podcast to bring 7TH HEAVEN fans behind the scenes.
“As one of the most cherished family dramas of all time, spanning 11 seasons, 7TH HEAVEN captivated audiences around the globe with its compelling storytelling and endearing characters,” a press release about the podcast describes. “Now, through this off-the-cuff podcast series, listeners have the exclusive opportunity to revisit the world of the Camdens and uncover untold stories, behind-the-scenes hijinks, and cherished memories.”
