7TH HEAVEN Stars Open Up About Life as Child Actors

7TH HEAVEN Stars Open Up About Life as Child Actors

By Movieguide® Contributor

In the first episode of the “Catching Up With the Camdens” podcast, 7TH HEAVEN actors Beverly Mitchell, Mack Rosman and David Gallagher discussed their start as child actors and how things have changed in the industry in the past three decades.

“Actually, I feel like what’s sad now is so many people who are getting in the industry right now, they don’t get that experience [in front of a casting director],” Mitchell said. “Like the joy for me was auditioning and being able to, like, go in and have those relationships with the casting directors and, like, being able to express yourself that way and show who and what we are.”

“Now everything’s self-tape and, like, you find so many actors that, like, they talk to themselves in the mirror for so long that they forget how to interact, it’s weird,” she continued.

For all three of the actors, so much of their childhood consisted of going into these auditions — experiences that they look back on fondly. Though the job could be tedious sometimes, it taught them so much and helped them know that they really did love acting. Gallagher’s siblings, for example, started out doing the same auditions he did, but they eventually stopped going because they realized they didn’t love the art.

The actors’ love for the art helped them succeed in the industry because they were doing these auditions for the love of it rather than just to find success.

“I would go out on a ton of auditions and then I’d go home and I’d be like, great, I’m gonna play my Nintendo. I would be out of sight, out of mind, like I was done with the auditions. I didn’t care so much [about the outcome],” Gallagher said.

“If it’s not that important to you, it’s much easier. It’s when you make it all that you are about, then it definitely [becomes harder],” he continued. “It also lowered the anxiety. I had a certain amount of success each year. Every now and then something came through and I would be on set. And being on set, for me, was the best.”

7TH HEAVEN ran from 1996-2007 and followedEric Camden, a minister, and his wife Annie [as they] deal with the drama of having seven children, ranging from toddlers to adults with families of their own.”

The costars launched their rewatch podcast earlier this year.

“It’s been over a decade since I’ve revisited my life on the show,” Gallagher told PEOPLE. “The best part about doing it this way is that it gives us all a reason to reconnect with each other. It feels great to spend time with the family again.”

Throughout the podcast, Mitchell, Rosman and Gallagher plan to dive “into the Camden family’s untold stories and treasured memories. Perfect for fans old and new, this podcast offers a nostalgic journey through one of the most endearing shows of all time.”

7TH HEAVEN on-screen siblings Beverly Mitchell, David Gallagher and Mackenzie Rosman got together to premiere the first episode of their podcast, “Catching up With the Camdens.”

“I do have to say I have a lot of pride in that I have tried the best I could to stay in touch with everybody through all of the years at some point, like, even though sometimes there’s been distance. What’s great, though, I also feel is magical about us is that when we all come back together, it’s like no time has been lost,” Mitchell said on the podcast Monday.

“But that’s how it is with family. That’s how it should be with family, and I feel like we’re like an extended family,” Gallagher added. “We’ve always been like that. We’ve always thought of each other and treated each other that way.”

As they interacted throughout the premiere, Mitchell took on the familiar role of a bossy older sister, especially to Rosman, who behaved much like the youngest sibling she portrayed in the show. She made fun of how Mitchell talked, lying back on the couch, relaxed, as Mitchell sat with ramrod-straight posture.
