Actress Patricia Heaton Celebrates 3 Years of Sobriety

By Movieguide® Staff

Actress Patricia Heaton recently announced that she celebrated three years of “freedom from alcohol.”

“It’s July when we celebrate our nation’s freedom. Also celebrating three years of freedom from alcohol for me,” the EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND actress said in a video posted to Twitter.

“So, just wanted to share that with you. And message me if any of you are thinking about doing that, any of you are doing that now and need some encouragement or anything at all. Have a great day,” she added.

The 63-year-old actress, who was on a hike in the video, revealed that she not only quit alcohol but now focuses on her fitness and health.

“I miss it terribly, but at the end of the day, I feel better,” Heaton told Parade Magazine. “I noticed that I was looking forward every night to cocktails. And if I happened to go to lunch, I might have a glass of wine or Prosecco.”

“I think it’s something about your children leaving the house and the things that used to anchor you are no longer there,” Heaton added at the time. “You’re a little bit at sea, and so you reach for the bottle to dull the uncertainty. I sensed that a bit with myself. … I’ve stopped [drinking], and my life has improved significantly. My kids are in their mid-20s and I’ll probably be in my 70s by the time I have grandchildren. I want to be healthy for them.”

Heaton is also open about her faith in God.

Movieguide® previously reported:

Emmy-award winning actress Patricia Heaton lost a friend when Sue Ackerman passed, but said that she trusts the Lord and is comforted knowing Ackerman loved Jesus.

Heaton remembered her late friend fondly and recalled how important the Church was for Ackerman when they met nearly 40 years ago.

“My friend Sue Ackerman died today,” Heaton said on Instagram. “We met in NYC in the 80’s. She was one of the earliest members of Redeemer Presbyterian Church with @timkellernyc where she met her devoted husband Russ.”

Now that her friend has died, Heaton is mourning the loss, but she trusts in God’s sovereignty and says she is at peace knowing that her friend is living free of her ailments on earth in the presence of her Savior.

“God saw fit to call her to Himself today. I know she didn’t want to leave her beautiful kids, but she loved Jesus and was His faithful servant,” Heaton revealed. “My comfort is in the knowledge that she lives with her Savior and is praying for all of us, and that we will all be reunited in His kingdom.”

Heaton is vocal about her faith and her pro-life views despite her career in Hollywood.

“We’re created for eternity,” Heaton told CBN in a previous interview. “We’re not created for temporary life. So I feel that even if I get pushback on it, or people think I’m weird or strange, that there’s somebody out there that wants to hear this, that’s craving that message.”

Heaton is known for her roles in movies like BEETHOVEN, SPACE JAM, and THE STAR.
