Alexa PenaVega opened up about how the loss of her fourth child has brought her both pain and joy.
“Your valley can become a mountain top, and quickly, if you just let God completely take control,” she said while appearing on the “Got It From My Momma” podcast.
PenaVega and her husband Carlos shared that daughter Indy was stillborn in April of 2024.
“It carries two things and both can be true,” the SPY KIDS actress explained. “It carries a lot of pain which, you know, that hurts, but it also carries so much life, and it’s so weird to say that. She carries so much joy. I never thought I would experience joy and loss, and yet I have so much joy from her life. But what He did through that loss and what He did with that pain — it was not without purpose.”

She concluded, “It just has carried so much meaning, and she’s made me better.”
PenaVega has been open about sharing her grief, as well as offering support to other parents who have experienced the same loss.
“This was the most painful moment I have ever experienced,” she wrote in an Instagram post a year after the stillbirth. And yet, despite devastating loss, we felt so held…so covered…a super natural peace.”
PenaVega continued, “It was all out of our control. We had to give it all over to God. The burden was too heavy for us to carry so He took the weight off of us and draped us in His peace. Over this last year we have watched LIFE come out of her life. We watched people heal because of Indy. We watched grief lifted because of Indy. We watched relationships be restored…God gave her life SO MUCH FRUIT…so much meaning and purpose.”
In another Instagram video, the actress shared, “It was a very hard season for all of us to navigate, but I don’t think I’ve ever surrendered in this way to God in my life.”
“My faith has never been stronger. My marriage has never been stronger,” she continued. “Our life, her life, was so purposeful in just that short, little bit that we had with her. And while she may not have taken a breath here on Earth, she did not go without purpose.”
While PenaVega still feels the sadness of this tragic loss, the actress has found purpose in her pain.
