Actress Alexa PenaVega sees how God has used the stillbirth of her daughter Indy to encourage others going through difficult times and to illustrate His faithfulness.

“God really prepared me, I feel like, for what was to come,” she told evangelist J. John in a recent interview. “I think He always knew the attack of the enemy. He knew what was happening, but He really had my heart, all of us, and He said, like, ‘I’m going to make a way.'”

She shared that Indy was healthy throughout her whole pregnancy, though PenaVega struggled.

“I actually had a very rough pregnancy, and it wasn’t my baby, it was me…Her name was Indy. She was great. So safe, so wonderful, super healthy, perfect,” she said. “My body was having all kinds of crazy things going on.”

She added, “I think because it was such a rough pregnancy, it really drew me near to Him in a way that, you know, had it been a perfectly healthy pregnancy and like super easy, I don’t think I would have been at His feet.”

PenaVega revealed that being in the film industry had resulted in a lifestyle of people pleasing, something that God broke her free from during her pregnancy with Indy.

“I was talking to God in a way that I had never really spoken to Him before. There was just so much new depth and Him like breaking pains that, you know, had a strong hold over me,” she explained.

PenaVega shared that Indy had a heartbeat up to two minutes before she was born, but she never took a breath.

“I feel like she changed the world without taking a breath, and that’s something pretty special,” she said.

The actress explained how, as painful as the situation was, God used it to help her and her family grow in new ways.

“What she did for our lives, I mean, just completely shifted everything, even my kids, the questions that they started asking afterwards, the way that they grieved, and the way they still talk about her, and the way we’re able to celebrate her life, doesn’t make sense, other than like the Lord has really made it so joyful.”

PenaVega shared a similar sentiment in a recent Instagram post, which shows her holding her daughter Indy.

In the caption, she said, “We watched people heal because of Indy. We watched grief lifted because of Indy. We watched relationships be restored…God gave her life SO MUCH FRUIT”

She ended with the scripture Jeremiah 29:11, which says “’For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’”

People in the comment section shared personal stories about how Indy’s story helped them.

“I remember when you lost her last year…I was so heartbroken for your family. Little did I know, 5 days later, my son would die inside me at 39 weeks. I feel your pain and I’m so so sorry. Indy was so loved ❤️” one follower shared.

Another person added, “God is good. Continued Prayers for peace and understanding for you all❤️”

Indy’s story is a reminder that God can take the worst of situations and bring beauty from them, and PenaVega shows us that if you lean on God, you can get through anything.
