BLUEY is giving fans a surprise glimpse into dad character Bandit’s professional life with a short—and fans love it.
“And please welcome… Dr. Bandit Heeler!” a new BLUEY bonus video announced on Mar. 8.
In the 1 minute, 36 second YouTube video, Bandit gives a lecture on archeology and his canine ancestors, revealing to fans for the first time that the father of two has a PhD.
“Behold, the only fossil of the only known dog to walk upright,” Bandit begins, holding up a bone. He then digs into his lecture, including lots of big words and a PowerPoint presentation.
Never without a comedic element—after his spiel, the Blue Heeler gnaws on the fossil belonging to his ancestors.
“My daughter is too excited that Bandit does the same job as her mom. But I’m more excited than her about this episode😍😍😍” one parent commented on the Instagram announcement.
“Watched it and thought ‘dogs will be dogs’ 😂” one viewer commented.
“This is the best Mini-sode ever,” another said.
Neilsen Media Research revealed that BLUEY was the No. 1 most watched streamed series in 2024 in the US. The kids show totaled 56 billion minutes watched. It’s the No. 1 kids show in the UK on Disney+, CBeebies and iPlayer.
The short comes as an amusing appetizer to the upcoming BLUEY movie, which is supposed to release in 2027, per Comic Book. Meanwhile, Season 3 has included, and there’s no news of if or when Season 4 may come about.

The movie’s synopsis says the feature will “continue the adventures of Bluey, a lovable, inexhaustible, blue heeler dog, who lives with her Mum, Dad and her little sister, Bingo.”
BLUEY creator Joe Brumm said, “I really enjoyed the experience of working with a longer format on The Sign in series 3, so going even further with a feature film feels like a natural extension of that. I’ve always thought Bluey deserved a theatrical movie. I want this to be an experiential event for the whole family to enjoy together.”
“I’m excited to continue to partner with Cecilia Persson, Tom Fussell and the team at BBC Studios, and Dana Walden, Alan Bergman and Disney to bring this new Bluey story to the big screen,” he said.
