Despite starring on the Disney channel classic, Ashley Tisdale explained that PHINEAS AND FERB is a little too old for her 4-year-old daughter, Jupiter.
“I haven’t [watched the show with Jupiter]. I mean, she’s seen [the characters] Phineas and Ferb,” Tisdale told PEOPLE. “It might be a little bit more for the older age range. She knows that I’m on it, and she has seen that, but I haven’t shown her the new episodes.”
That, however, may soon change as a new season of the show releases this summer. After ending the show in 2015, creators Dan Povenmire and Jeff Marsh got the green light to make 40 more episodes for Disney+, resulting in two more upcoming seasons.
“It feels like the show, it has this energy of the [original] show but it also sort of feels like it is elevated in some ways,” Povenmire said last August. “We just had a lot more energy because we’ve had a break from it…Eight or nine episodes of this season alone will be some people’s favorite episodes of all time.”
Tisdale seems to agree that the new episodes are something special, as it has also allowed the characters to grow up a little bit, making room for new storylines.

“The new episodes are amazing, and I’m so excited because my character finally has aged a little bit,” she said. “She’s 16, and so I really can’t wait for everybody to see it. It’s one of those things where [Povenmire and Marsh] did not go far from the DNA of it, which is so great.”
There are, however, differences coming after the decade hiatus, such as introducing new characters, and phasing out old ones. For the most part, though, the main cast has remained the same as, along with Tisdale, other returning stars include Vincent Martella (Phineas), Thomas Brodie-Sangster (Ferb), Alyson Stoner (Isabella) and Maulik Pancholy (Baljeet).
“There are stories that we’ve been wanting to tell for a long time that’s, that we never got around to,” Povenmire said at the New York Comic Con. “There are things that we were like, ‘Hey, we’ve never done this kind of an episode’ that we had tried to do a couple of times and we finally figured out a way to do it that worked within our universe.”
“One of the most fun things about doing more of these is we have the freedom now to go to explore characters more fully that we didn’t get to the first time,” Marsh added.
Perhaps most exciting, the wait for the new episodes is almost at a close as they will begin to release on Disney Channel, Disney XD and Disney+ starting on June 5.
