Beware of These Celine Dion Fakes
By Movieguide® Contributor
Artificial intelligence targeted songstress Celine Dion, promopting the singer to issue a wanring on social media.
“It has come to our attention that unsanctioned, AI-generated music purporting to contain Celine Dion’s musical performances, and name and likeness, is currently circulating online and across various Digital Service Providers,” the post said. “Please be advised that these recordings are fake and not approved, and are not songs from her official discography.”
Fans in the comment section supported Dion and condemned the unjust use of AI. “AI invading the music culture is SO wrong. I don’t support it at all!” one user said. Another person added, “It was clear that letting AI loose without legal guidelines would end up motivating many to go the unethical way.”
What is even more devasting is this comes at a time when Dion is dealing with health challenges that inhibit her ability to perform.
Today reported, “Dion hadn’t performed much music since she announced in 2022 that she had been diagnosed with stiff person syndrome, halting all performances until she resurfaced with a surprise appearance at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris when she sang ‘Hymne à l’amour.’”
Dion released a film last year that documented her journey with Stiff person syndrome.
Movieguide reported, “I AM: CELINE DION shows her battle with stiff-person syndrome. Dion shared her diagnosis in 2022, when the condition’s symptoms caused her to have to start canceling show. Dion thanked her sons — René-Charles Angelil, 23, and twins Nelson and Eddy, 13 — for their ‘daily love and support.’”
Other celebrities who have faced AI stealing their likeness include Robin Williams, Scarlett Johansson, and Taylor Swift.
Movieguide previously reported:
Actress Scarlett Johansson believes an AI company used her voice for its product, despite her request for it not to. OpenAI, creators of Chat GPT, released a new model last week including a feature called ‘Voice Mode.’ This feature allows users to hear a voice respond to their questions and searches. The voice in question is one called ‘Sky,’ which both users and Johansson herself believe sounds like the actress.”
Even more disturbing is AI’s ability to recreate those who are no longer with us. “Robin Williams’ daughter Zelda recently spoke out against AI recreations of her father that imitate his voice…. ‘I am not an impartial voice in SAG’s fight against AI. I’ve witnessed for YEARS how many people want to train these models to create/recreate actors who cannot consent, like dad,’ she shared.
