AMERICAN IDOL judge Luke Bryan was surprised that his co-judge Carrie Underwood is extremely punctual.

“Well, you know, the thing I know about Carrie Underwood is she is the most on-time person you have ever met,” Bryan said in a recent interview.

He continued, “I’m talking about punctual, dialed in, professional. I’m talking about like one minute before. Like [football coach] Bill Belichick taught her how to show up on time.”

When he’s in his dressing room, Underwood is already in her judge’s chair.

“And let’s say it’s 9:03, and there’s Carrie, ready, looking at her nails. We’re like, you know, throwing it on. So, just her punctuality,” he explained.

“I’ll tell you, you know, this is our second year that we’ve started together and just getting to know her and her family dynamic. I mean, having two boys, it’s really fun to hear the stories going on around their household,” he added.

In 2013, Underwood confessed she’s obsessive about being on time.

“I’m early for everything to the point where it freaks people out. That’s my one — it’s a good thing I guess, but I know it’s annoying to the people around me,” she said. “I’m on time for everything. If I’m late something’s wrong, like I’ve wrecked my car.”

“I’m weird about food, because I can be,” she added. “There’s certain organizational things. Stuff has its place all the time. I’m not a clean freak, but there are certain things that have their place and that’s the place they have to stay.”

She attributes her control tendency to her hectic life. She feels like she’s in control of very little, so she’s very in control of what she can manage — like being on time.

In July, Bryan said that the former IDOL winner loves her role as judge on the show.

“I know she had a great time in the role,” he said. “Last year was really really incredible with Carrie and Lionel and Ryan,” he added, “and the main thing is just, have fun with American Idol and have fun with the kids [contestants]. We’ll see what happens.”

AMERICAN IDOL moved its hub from California to Nashville for Season 24, which premiered on Monday. It’s nicer for Underwood to be closer to home.

“I live an hour away, so some nights I’m staying downtown,” she said. “But it is really nice — I mean, it’s such a great vibe.”

The next episode of AMERICAN IDOL comes out Monday, Feb. 2 at 8/7c on ABC, per American Songwriter.
