CBS Renews THE NIEGHBORHOOD for One Last Walk Around the Block

CBS has renewed sitcom THE NEIGHBORHOOD for its 8th and final season.
When the show didn’t make CBS’s list of early renewals last month, fans were left unsure if they’d get to see another season of THE NEIGHBORHOOD. The news of the renewal is bittersweet, as it’s confirmed that it will be the show’s last season.
The hesitation came from the show’s high price tag, according to Deadline. It costs to have well-known actors like Cedric the Entertainer, Max Greenfield, Marcel Spears and more.
The show premiered in 2018. It centers around two families, the Calvins and the Butlers. The Johnsons are a white family who move into a largely black neighborhood in Pasadena, right next to the Butlers, much to the Butler family patriarch’s (Calvin) annoyance.
“Being a show that is so much about race relationships and the Black experience, we knew that we had the platform and the opportunity and, frankly, the obligation to address the issue,” creator Jim Reynolds previously told EW.

Season 7 has averaged 6.4 million viewers in 35 days—not bad numbers for CBS.
“The brilliant cast and creative team at The Neighborhood led by the incomparable Cedric the Entertainer have brought levity, laughter and poignant storylines to Monday nights for seven incredible seasons,” said Amy Reisenbach, President of CBS Entertainment. “A strong ratings performer for CBS and one of the top comedies on TV, we believe the show’s loyal fans deserve a proper farewell season full of the trademark humor and heartfelt moments that are synonymous with the series.”
The upcoming Season 7 finale provides a set-up for a spinoff with characters Marty and Malcolm as they move to Venice. The spinoff is designed to run alongside THE NEIGHBORHOOD for a season so that it can have a good launch, but CBS hasn’t announced whether it will continue with the new series.
Paramount+ has already picked up another spinoff of the show called CRUTCH. The release date isn’t announced, but it’s possible it could come out late this year or likely sometime next year.
Other shows waiting to get the greenlight from CBS are POPPA’S HOUSE and EQUALIZER.
