Gospel music legend CeCe Winans reflected on the joy that can come from forgiveness.
“I think a lot of times, we hold on to offense because we’re so into ourselves,” she said during an episode of TBN’s BETTER TOGETHER. “You know, it’s always me, me, me, me, me. And the Word tells us to think of other people.”
Winans added, “And the thing that makes me — I’ll let offense go so quick. I’m quick to forgive, and I’m quick to forgive because I just always think about, ‘What if God didn’t forgive me every day?’ Because the Word tells us if we don’t forgive, we can’t receive forgiveness, and so it’s like, ‘Oh, okay, well, I forgive.’”

“We all have to come to the resolve that we’re going to do it God’s way,” she concluded. “If we’re going to reap the benefits of the book, then we’re going to have to do it His way, and not some of the time, but every single time.”
Winans recently won her 18th Grammy Award for Best Gospel Performance/Song for “Come Jesus Come,” featuring Shirley Caesar.
“To God be the glory!! Honored to sing about Jesus all over the world. Thank you @grammys for helping @pastorscaesar and I spread the truths of this song even further,” she wrote in an Instagram post. “Grateful for the incredible writers and producers who brought this song to life; written by Bryan Fowler, Hank Bentley, Stephen McWhirter & Tara McWhirter; produced by Thomas Hardin Jr. & Tyrone Jackson.”
In a previous interview about the song, Winans said, “It is an absolute honor to sing alongside the incomparable Shirley Caesar. Her voice, her spirit, and her unwavering faith have impacted gospel music and the world for generations. ‘Come Jesus Come’ is a song that speaks to the times we’re living in and having Pastor Caesar join me on this track makes it even more powerful. I pray it blesses everyone who hears it.”
Winans is also getting ready to hit the road on her “More Than This” tour, kicking off in March in Nashville.
“My heart for this tour is simple. I just want people to meet with Jesus,” she said in a statement about the tour. “When we gather to worship, something beautiful happens; walls come down, hearts open, and His presence fills the room. We’ll sing songs old and new, but more than anything, I want us to be reminded of who He is. It’s not about the music or the lights. My prayer is that every person leaves knowing His love in a deeper way.”
Winans’ words are a reminder of the importance of forgiveness — for both others and ourselves.
