Celebrities and communities across the country lift their voices in prayers and condolences after the tragic flash floods in Central Texas.
“Pray and, if you can, help. Any way you can. Those parents. Those communities,” actor Kristoffer Polaha wrote in an Instagram post with a video of World Vision’s efforts to deliver emergency supplies. Other celebrities, like actress Melissa Joan Hart, have similarly used their platform to spread awareness and ask for thoughts and prayers.
Victims of the flooding include campers and counselors from Camp Mystic, an all-girls Christian camp. So far, at least 119 have been confirmed dead, with more than 160 people missing.
Among those impacted by the disaster is country singer Pat Green, who asks for prayers. His brother and his family are among those missing. Green wrote on Instagram, “We are grieving alongside countless Texans whose lives have been upended by this tragedy… Thank you for your love, prayers, and compassion.”
One powerful message from influencer Torrance Dagley reads, “Emergency responders are working around the clock, but some families are still searching for missing loved ones. My heart aches knowing there are people right now who don’t know where their mother, brother, child, or friend is. Please, I’m begging you — keep those families in your prayers. Pray their loved ones are found safe and sound.🙏”
Governor Greg Abbott honored the lives lost from the flooding with Texas flags at half-mast today. Abbott said, “Cecilia and I continue to pray for their loved ones as they grieve this unimaginable loss and urge all Texans to continue praying for all impacted by this devastation. Texas stands united in mourning and in our resolve to support those who strive to heal and recover. May God bring comfort to every family affected and strength to the thousands of first responders still working on the ground.”
The governor also issued a proclamation on July 6 for a day of prayer, asking Texans to “offer prayers on that day for the healing of individuals, safety of our first responders and public safety officers, rebuilding of communities, and restoration of the region struck by the recent flooding disaster in Central Texas.”
Many have stepped up as volunteers during this crisis to aid in search and rescue. Kourtney Rand’s equine volunteer group runs missions all day, using their horses to reach more difficult terrain faster than other groups. Ilda Mendoza, 8 months pregnant, has helped recover some of the missing in Kerr County. In the midst of pain, Texans have shown their loving spirit in unity and prayer, their resilience and their support for each other.
Let us offer up prayer in this difficult time for the families affected by this disaster. May God be with the search and rescue efforts, the workers and volunteers who are working tirelessly to save and serve and those experiencing loss and grief.
