Houston Texans quarterback CJ Stroud explained on Sunday why he and his teammates give glory to God after games.

“I don’t want it to ever be confused. I don’t think God is like the Texans are going to win, but I think regardless of win or loss, He gets the glory, and that’s up to us, you know, and that’s just worship,” the quarterback said. “And I think, you know, Him giving us our talents, our abilities and these jobs, you know, He’s more than worthy of all the worship.”

“And that’s really why we do what we do,” the 24-year-old continued. “It’s not because we want favor from the Lord, even though, you know, that would be nice, but I think, you know, in my opinion, you don’t just get favor from the Lord because you just give Him glory, but He deserves it, and He’s worthy of it.”

“And I look back on my life, He’s been faithful, but yeah, just not because we all follow Jesus, that we just win every game, but regardless, I think it shows the world when you lose and you’re not doing well, how you profess your faith, or you go about your life when things aren’t going great, is the testimony and really the testimony of your faith. And you know your journey, your witness to everybody else,” he concluded.

Since the beginning of his NFL career, Stroud has always praised God, win or loss. He also uses his platform to uplift others through his CJ Stroud Foundation.

“Being raised by a single mother, experiencing financial challenges, and knowing firsthand what it feels like to be overlooked,” Stroud told the NFL for the My Cause My Cleats campaign. “God blessed me with this platform, and I wanted to use it to uplift the same kinds of families I came from. The foundation is a way of giving back, honoring my mom, and providing hope where it’s needed most.”

“The design is inspired by the heart of my foundation. You’ll see elements that represent unity, hope, courage, and faith – the things that carried me and my family through seasons,” he continued.

Stroud then discussed what kind of impact he wants to make in his community.

“I want them to feel supported, valued, and empowered,” he said. “Whether it’s helping single moms rebuild, giving kids leadership opportunities, providing scholarships, or meeting essential needs – I hope our foundation reminds people that they matter and they’re not alone.”

At this past weekend’s post-game press conference, Stroud made one thing clear: he and other players do not glorify God on camera just so God will bless them; they do it because no matter what, God deserves our worship.
