Comedian Leanne Morgan’s new — and her first — sitcom, titled LEANNE, is finally on its way!

“This has been a dream of mine since I was nine years old, and Chuck Lorre — I got a lot of Chucks — the biggest of big in show business, in sitcom, came to my house in Knoxville, held my grandbaby on our back porch and asked me if he could do a television show with me,” she told Jenna Bush Hager on TODAY WITH JENNA & FRIENDS.

Per Deadline, LEANNE “follows Leanne (Morgan), whose life is upended when her husband of 33 years leaves her for another woman. Starting over when you’re a grandmother and in menopause isn’t exactly what she had in mind, but with the help of her family, she will navigate this new chapter with grace, dignity and jello salad.”

The comedian was quick to explain that the show is entirely fictional.

“People, the premise is not, it’s not based on my real life. It’s based on my comedy, but it would be too weird to be about me and [her husband] Chuck Morgan and my real children,” she said.

She shared that Lorre came up with “This premise of my husband of 34 years wants a divorce and does it over an email and has had an affair with a younger woman, and here I am, a grandmama with, you know, two grown children. I’ve always been a stay-at-home mom like ‘what is my life now?’ And finding my purpose, and Kristen Johnson plays my sister, and she is such a pro and so funny.”

Morgan said Tim Daly plays her new love interest in the show, and she had to kiss him, something she asked her husband about beforehand.

“I had to say to Chuck Morgan, ‘I’m kissing Tim Daly this episode.’ And I go, ‘Does that bother you?’” Morgan joked that he said it doesn’t bother him “because Chuck Morgan wants me to make money.”

Morgan previously shared the news on Instagram.

“I’ve dreamed of this since childhood, and I can’t believe it has come true!” she wrote. “When I started comedy 25 years ago, my goal was to be a part of a sitcom. It just goes to show you it’s never too late, and dreams do come true. I’m a grandmama from Tennessee, and now I have a TV show with Chuck Lorre and Netflix. What in the world!?”

Fans in the comment section congratulated her on the upcoming show. “Congratulations!! I absolutely enjoy your comedy so much, thank you for that!!💖” one user said. Another person added, “No one deserves it more!:) can’t wait to watch👏👏👏”

Morgan is known for keeping her comedy clean and previously shared how she wants to use her gift to bless others. She told Christianity Today, “Right before I walk on the stage I say, ‘God, somebody needs to laugh today. Please let me be a blessing.”

All 16 episodes of LEANNE will premier July 31 on Netflix.
