Dennis Quaid discussed the simplicity of the Gospel and how he hopes that message shines through on his album Fallen: A Gospel Record for Sinners.
“I think people get confused…the personal relationship with Jesus Christ is your relationship with Him personally. You don’t need a church for that, you don’t need the approval of a priest or this or anything. That’s between you and Him,” Quaid told Matthew West. “So, it’s not really about living a boy scout life and doing, you know, being good. There’s certainly good deeds, that’s great, but it’s about who you are really inside.”
“It’s not like a scorecard or gee, yeah, check the box or gold star, or this or that. It’s about your real relationship with Him and that’s what everybody’s looking for,” Quaid continued. “And that’s always accessible. It’s so surprisingly simple, but we make it more complicated.”
The simplicity of the Gospel is what spoke to him when he was looking for faith after finding the world empty. Quaid explored all of the major religions, but it wasn’t until he read the words of Jesus that he felt that there was anything to pay attention to.
“I started meditating again, and I went back and read the Bible cover to cover. I had done it when I was 20, and I was now 38, and I read it cover to cover again,” Quaid previously told Jon Erwin when explaining how his faith became real. “And I read the Dhammapada, the Bhagavad Gita, and I read the Quran. And then I came back and read the Bible again, and it was the red words of Jesus, what really struck me — was real to me — was what Jesus said and what Jesus did. And that was the start of my personal relationship with Jesus.”
Through this searching, Quaid came to realize that Christianity is the only faith that provided him the the ability to have a personal relationship with Jesus, rather than worship a distant God. This is what drew him in and what he hopes others who are searching realize.

“[The Holy texts] all point to the same thing, that which has no words, which is God. Jesus actually has the answer to all that. You know, I had heard about having a personal relationship with Jesus…I came to know what having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ was,” Quaid explained.
Now, Quaid is focused on helping others connect with the Lord in the same way. In the summer of 2023, he released his Gospel album which debuted at No.1 on the Top Christian/Gospel Albums chart. It is incredible to see the way the Lord has moved in Quaid’s life and how he has, in turn, used his platform to point back to God.
