Dolly Parton released a song in honor of her late husband Carl Dean, who died last week at the age of 82.
In a post to Instagram, Parton shared a heartfelt post and mentioned the new song.
“I fell in love with Carl Dean when I was 18 years old,” she began. “We have spent 60 precious and meaningful years together. Like all great love stories, they never end. They live on in memory and song. He will always be the star of my life story, and I dedicate this song to him.”
She then shared the title of the song, which is called, ‘If You Hadn’t Been There.’
Lyrics to the heartfelt chorus say “I wouldn’t be here, If you hadn’t been there, Holding my hand
Showing you care, You made me dream, More than I dared, And I wouldn’t bе here, If you hadn’t been therе.”
People in the Instagram comment section were supportive of Parton and offered their condolences.
“We love you and are holding you, Dolly 🤍” one user said.
Another person added, “So beautiful. You respected his wish for privacy and guarded the love you both shared. I have always been so fascinated and impressed your marriage. You have modeled what love really is. ❤️”

Dolly Parton and Carl Dean have a very sweet love story, and their relationship began the same day as Parton’s career back in the ’60s.
US Weekly said, “Parton married Dean in 1966, two years after they met outside the Wishy Washy Laundromat on the same day she moved to Nashville to begin her music career.”
Several days earlier, Parton took to Instagram to thank everyone for their love and support during this difficult time.
“This is a love note to family, friends and fans. Thank you or all the messages, cards and flowers that you’ve sent to pay your respects for the loss of my beloved husband Carl,” the singer shared in an Instagram statement. “I can’t reach out personally to each of you but just know it has meant the world to me. He is in God’s arms now and I am OK with that. I will always love you.”
