Faith-Based Movies Are Flooding the Theaters this Fall

Faith-Based Movies Are Flooding the Theaters this Fall

By Ben Kayser, Managing Editor

This past spring, we saw multiple faith-based movies hit the big screen with SAMSON, PAUL, APOSTLE OF CHRIST, GOD’S NOT DEAD: A LIGHT IN DARKNESS, and of course, the Christian independent success I CAN ONLY IMAGINE which grossed $83 million in the domestic box office. This fall could see even more faith-oriented movies!

The first faith-based movie of the season to hit theaters is BEAUTIFULLY BROKEN on August 24th. The movie’s website describes the story as “a refugee’s escape, a prisoner’s promise and a daughter’s painful secret converge in this inspiring true story of hope. As three fathers fight to save their families, their lives become intertwined in an unlikely journey across the globe, where they learn the healing power of forgiveness and reconciliation.” The movie will feature appearances from Christian musical artists Toby Mac and Michael W. Smith and gospel artist CeCe Winan’s will also contribute to the soundtrack.

Next up is UNBROKEN: PATH TO REDEMPTION which opens nationwide September 14 from Universal 1440 Entertainment, The WTA Group and Pure Flix Entertainment. The movie is a spiritual sequel to Angelina Jolie’s UNBROKEN movie about the war veteran, POW survivor, Olympic medalist, and Christian evangelist Louis Zamperini. This movie features different actors in the roles and focuses on Zamperini’s life after returning home from the war, including his marriage to his wife, his struggle with PTSD and alcoholism, and his eventual conversion to Christianity at a Billy Graham crusade. The Reverend Billy Graham is played by nonother than his evangelist grandson Will Graham. The movie is Directed by Harold Cronk (GOD’S NOT DEAD and GOD’S NOT DEAD 2)

The very next week on September 21st, Director Harold Cronk has another movie releasing nationwide called GOD BLESS THE BROKEN ROAD. The movie tells a profound, poignant story of a war widow named Amanda who gets angry at God, loses her faith and is brought to her knees to restore her life. It stars Lindsay Pulsipher and Jordin Sparks.

On October 26, Pure Flix will release INDIVISIBLE which stars Sarah Drew (MOM’S NIGHT OUT, GREY’S ANATOMY) as the wife of an Army Chaplain played by Justin Bruening (GREY’S ANATOMY), and the struggles they face to keep their marriage alive.

While these are the more explicitly Christian faith-based movies, there are a couple other movies targeting conservative audiences, including Dinesh D’Souza’s documentary DEATH OF A NATION, which releases August 3rd. There’s also the Dean Cain starring movie GOSNELL, which exposes the abortionist Kermit Gosnell and releases October 12th.

People will be pleased to know that 2019 also has several faith-based movies scheduled for release, including BREAKTHROUGH from Devon Franklin and the newest movie from Alex and Stephen Kendrick, OVERCOMER.

Check back for more updates, interviews, and reviews of these movies and more in the coming weeks.
