Family-Friendly Movies Always Win. INSIDE OUT 2 Proves It
By Movieguide® Contributor
INSIDE OUT 2 was already one of the top 10 animated movies ever, but it just hit a new milestone. The family-friendly flick just broke into the top 10 highest-grossing movies of all time.
Deadline reported that the film hit, “$1.524B global ($1,523.9M) through Wednesday, [and] the sequel has cruised past FURIOUS 7 ($1.515B) and THE AVENGERS ($1.521B) to land the No. 10 spot on the all-time chart.”
Domestically, the film reached $618.8M as of July 31.
“The Top 10 offshore markets to date are Mexico ($100.5M), Brazil ($77.3M/highest-grossing movie ever), UK ($64.9M), Korea ($58.2M), France ($55.6M), Italy ($47.1M), China ($45.9M), Germany ($44.7M), Spain ($44.4M) and Australia ($35.1M),” Deadline said.
Last week, Movieguide® reported on the film’s success:
The movie took home $799.7 million at the global box office, making it the No. 10 animated movie of all time, passing MINIONS: THE RISE OF GRU, FINDING NEMO and SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE…
INSIDE OUT 2 has already set some major records — the movie took home $100 million in its second weekend, setting a new record for an animated movie. It’s also already become 2024’s highest-grossing movie to date.
INSIDE OUT 2 also hit the $1B mark on only its 19th day in theaters, the fastest ever that an animated film reached that milestone.
INSIDE OUT 2 is the sequel to Pixar’s 2015 animated INSIDE OUT. The sequel follows Riley, a young girl who turns 13 and struggles with all the emotions that come with being a teenager.
“She longs to join the champion varsity girls high school hockey team,” Movieguide®’s synopsis reads. “However, new, unruly teenage emotions, led by Anxiety, has taken over the Control Room in Riley’s brain. In fact, Anxiety has forcibly banished Joy and her friends from the Control Room. Can Joy and her friends find their way back and fix the damage Anxiety is inflicting on Riley?”
The movie’s massive success is thanks to its “Strong Christian moral worldview…[and] many redemptive elements.”
“INSIDE OUT 2’s success is definitive proof that Movieguide®’s advocacy work impacts Disney,” says Robby Baehr, Movieguide® CEO. “This is the first movie Pixar has released in years that doesn’t flaunt an immoral agenda. Instead, because of our Annual Report to the Entertainment Industry, Disney and Pixar chose to cater to families and focus on positive, uplifting messages, and it’s already paying out dividends.
