Gary Sinise Remembers Gene Hackman Living a ‘Quiet Life’

As many actors mourn the death of Gene Hackman, Gary Sinise recalls how he changed his life when he retired, embracing quietness over the hustle and bustle of Hollywood.

“I didn’t stay in touch with Gene or anything like that, so I don’t know how he’s doing,” Sinise told Fox News. “I know, once he retired to New Mexico, he was retired. He did not want to come back and get any rewards or go to any Hollywood events or anything like that. He was done, and he was moving on from that part of his life. I think he was painting, he was doing a lot of that and living a quiet life in New Mexico.”

Sinise and Hackman starred in the 1995 movie THE QUICK AND THE DEAD together.

Hackman, his wife, Betsy, and their dog were found dead in their home on Feb. 26. Their cause of death is still being investigated. Hackman was 95 years old, while his wife was 65. While police do not expect any foul play, they are still trying to piece together the baffling events that could have caused all three to die.

Hackman’s pacemaker’s last event took place on Feb. 17, suggesting that may have been when the deaths occurred. Meanwhile, Betsy was also found in the bathroom with prescription pills scattered around her. Investigators’ current theory is that Hackman suffered a heart problem, which led to his death, and Betsy suffered a similar fate while running to the bathroom to retrieve Hackman’s heart pills, potentially suffering blunt force trauma to her head after falling.

Though Hackman was facing a physical decline in recent years due to his age, Betsy was still in great health, further adding to the confusion of the events.

“After COVID, he was more reclusive, protecting his immune system and everything else,” Hackman’s friend Stuart Ashman told Fox News. “I am really puzzled by the whole thing. You know, there’s a lot of different reports coming out. It’s kind of a tragic mystery in a way.”

Hackman was honored during the Oscars, remembered as a generous man and an amazing performer.

“Our community lost a giant and I lost a dear friend,” Morgan Freeman said at the awards, per CBS News. “Like everyone who ever shared a scene with him, I learned he was a generous performer and a man whose gifts elevated everyone’s work.”

Please keep Hackman’s family in your prayers as they mourn his loss.
