The next thing for the ICE AGE franchise, its sixth feature film titled ICE AGE: BOILING POINT, officially has a 2027 release date.

The movie will come out in theaters on Feb. 5, 2027. It was originally scheduled for Dec. 18, 2026, but was pushed back — possibly so that it doesn’t have to duke it out in the box office with DUNE 3 and AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY, ScreenRant noted.

The last mainline ICE AGE movie, COLLISION COURSE, came out a decade ago, while a spinoff movie, THE ICE AGE ADVENTURES OF BUCK WILD, came out in 2022 on Disney+. The first movie released in 2002. Next year will mark 25 years since the franchise first launched.

The previous movies were all produced by Blue Sky Studios, which closed in 2021. 20th Century Animation has taken the helm for the new movie.

A Blue Sky Studios spokesperson told Entertainment Weekly at the time: “Given the current economic realities, after much consideration and evaluation, we have made the difficult decision to close filmmaking operations at Blue Sky Studios.”

The most successful movie in the franchise is ICE AGE: DAWN OF THE DINOSAURS, which has made $196,573,705 in its lifetime, per Box Office Mojo.

Last month, 20th Century Studios and ICE AGE stars Queen Latifah, Ray Romano and Denis Leary revealed a sneak peek of the new movie at CinemaCon. They revealed that everyone’s favorite squirrel, Scrat, has a new baby — who comes at a bad time… There’s an active volcano gushing lava everywhere, Deadline said.

Animation Magazine said the first-look footage showed Scrat and Baby Scrat as they “comically tussle over a precious acorn before Papa subdues his hungry offspring with a baby acorn, which it uses as a pacifier. This precious moment is interrupted by a looming volcano, which erupts, sending the Scrats hopping from ice floe to ice floe to evade the spreading lava.”

The actors also said their characters will have to take a trip to a lost world where new dangers await.

Romano, who voices Manny the mammoth, joked, “The real Ice Age didn’t last this long. When we did [2002’s] ICE AGE 1, I know I wasn’t wearing compression socks or reading glasses.”

John Leguizamo and Simon Pegg will also return to voice characters.

Baby Scrat actually made his first appearance in the 2022 spinoff series, ICE AGE: SCRAT TALES, which streams on Disney+. Along with two TV specials, the franchise also has several Scrat short films such as GONE NUTTY, NO TIME FOR NUTS, SURVIVING SID and more.
