MAN OF STEEL actor Henry Cavill shared why he’s “not a fan” of sex scenes.
While on the “Happy, Sad, Confused” podcast, the actor stated he doesn’t “understand them [sex scenes].
“I think sometimes they’re overused these days,” he said. “It’s when you have a sense that you’re going, ‘Is this really necessary or is it just people with less clothing on?’”
Cavill added, “That’s when you start to get more uncomfortable, and you’re thinking, ‘There’s not a performance here. There’s not a piece which is going to carry through to the rest of the movie.'”
Cavill feels the scenes can be a “bit of a cop-out if a TV show or a movie is just filled with gyrating bodies, and you’re going, ‘OK, but what is this doing for us apart from the idea of, ‘Oh, naked person? Great.'”
Several actors have shared why they don’t like sex scenes. Penn Badgley, star of the hit Netflix series YOU, avoids the scenes because he wants to honor his family.
Movieguide® reported:
“It’s important to me in my real life to not have them,” Badgely added, noting that he wants to honor his wife and their 2-year-old son, James.
“My fidelity in my relationship. It’s important to me,” he explained. “And actually, it was one of the reasons that I initially wanted to turn the role down. I didn’t tell anybody that. But that is why.”
Neal McDonough is also among many Hollywood stars who refuse to have anything to do with sex scenes.
Movieguide® wrote of McDonough:
According to an interview with McDonough, when he was set to star in the ABC series SCOUNDRELS years ago, he refused to be in sex scenes with his female co-star.
Three days into filming the series, McDonough, a devout Catholic, was replaced with David James Elliott, something ABC referred to as a “casting change.” Closer Weekly recently spoketo McDonough about the ordeal that occurred in 2010 and brought the public’s attention to the debacle. The actor said, “I was [surprised], and it was a horrible situation for me. After that, I couldn’t get a job because everybody thought I was this religious zealot. I am very religious. I put God and family first, and me second. That’s what I live by. It was hard for a few years.”
Actress Emilia Clarke opened up about being pressured into filming nude scenes for GAME OF THRONES.
Movieguide® reported:
Right out of drama school, she decided to “approach this as a job” and believed that “if it’s in this script, then it’s clearly needed.” But when she actually began filming the first season, which had a “[expletive] ton of nudity,” she felt a bit differently.
“I have no idea what I’m doing, I have no idea what any of this is, I’ve never been on a film set like this before,” she remembered. “And now I’m on a film set completely naked with all of these people.”
