How Candace Cameron Bure Supports FULL HOUSE Costar Battling Cancer

Candace Cameron Bure shared how she’s supporting her FULL HOUSE costar Dave Coulier as he battles cancer.

“I talk to Dave a lot, and he’s still on his journey and doing okay. So, we’ll see here in the next couple of months as his chemo rounds end how he’s feeling,” she told PEOPLE.

Bure played D.J. Tanner on the ’80s and ’90s sitcom, and Coulier played her TV dad’s best friend Joey Gladstone.

Now as he battles cancer, the actress makes sure to call him so they can laugh together. Bure knows that simply being there during the hard times is very meaningful.

“That’s the most really anyone can do,” she said. “And you tell people how much you love them, that’s what friends are for. You’re just there for people, whether it’s to be a listening ear or give words of comfort and encouragement.”

Coulier announced in November that he was diagnosed with B cell Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

“I have heard from so many people who have been inspired enough by my words and actions to say that they are going to check in with their doctors and get mammograms, a colonoscopy or a prostate exam,” he said in an Instagram post. “I’m still going to laugh in the face of adversity. When I lost my sister, Sharon, my mother, Arlen, and my niece, Shannon to cancer, we tried to stay positive, and we made each other laugh through the worst of it. So, I’m choosing to spread the word about early cancer detection to help people. That’s just who I am.”

Bure, meanwhile, as been “praying every day” for him.

“A cancer diagnosis is so difficult. And it felt very devastating when Dave and Melissa [Coulier] called and let us all know personally before it went out to press,” she told Fox News in November. “But we know that the cancer that he has is very treatable. And many people have gone into remission for many, many years from that. So, you know, it was like the best diagnosis you can get from devastating news, in that sense. It feels very hopeful.”
