Melissa Gilbert recently shared the nickname one of her LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE co-stars gave her.

“I’ve been thinking about it a lot recently because it’s just sort of in the atmosphere and the one thing that keeps popping in my head was the first day of filming on the pilot when Michael Landon came up to me and he said, ‘Do you have a nickname because there’s two Melissas now,’” she said during an appearance on THE VIEW.

Gilbert was one of two Melissas; Melissa Sue Anderson played Mary Ingalls.

“I said, ‘I don’t,’” she continued. “And he said, ‘Well, what nickname do you want?’ I said, ‘Actually, I would like to be called ‘Moishe.’ And he said, ‘What? Why Moishe?’ And I said, ‘I heard it at home, it’s a cool name right?’ He said, ‘No. You are not Moishe. You are not an old Jewish man. We are going to call you Half Pint.’ And I’ve been Half Pint ever since!”

Gilbert also spoke about the LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE adaptation that’s currently in the works at Netflix.

“I support the project,” she said. “I loved being part of [the original], and I do think there’s room in the Little House universe for other interpretations.”

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Gilbert said that it’s “time for someone else’s interpretation” of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s work, adding, “I think there’s plenty of room for that. And I think there’s a lot of other stories to mine beyond that. So I think this opens the door in a lot of ways for all kinds of LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE projects.”

Gilbert is also now part of another heartwarming hit show — WHEN CALLS THE HEART!

“I play Georgie McGill, and she is a forensic accounting investigator with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police,” she told Entertainment Weekly. “I am working on a case, and that case brings me to Hope Valley, where I cross paths with Bill Avery, played by Jack Wagner. You find out that we had a history together. We went to school together. It’s revealed gradually over the first episode that I had a pretty intense crush on him, and I assumed he didn’t even know I existed — but the feeling was mutual. The question now is, in this investigation and working together, are we going to fall in love? Are we going to have a romance? It’ll be fun to see how it unfolds.”

Gilbert is set to appear in two episodes, but shared that she’s open to returning to Hope Valley in the future.
