What’s Ahead for This WCTH Romance? Stars Tell All

Melissa Gilbert, the newest addition to WHEN CALLS THE HEART, opened up to what she’d like to see from her character going forward.
“I play Georgie McGill, and she is a forensic accounting investigator with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police,” Gilbert told Entertainment Weekly. “I am working on a case, and that case brings me to Hope Valley, where I cross paths with Bill Avery, played by Jack Wagner. You find out that we had a history together. We went to school together.”
“It’s revealed gradually over the first episode that I had a pretty intense crush on him, and I assumed he didn’t even know I existed — but the feeling was mutual,” she continued. “The question now is, in this investigation and working together, are we going to fall in love? Are we going to have a romance? It’ll be fun to see how it unfolds.”
Gilbert only signed for two episodes, however, she would “love to see what happens with Bill and Georgie going forward, because it is left as a romantic cliffhanger — will-they, won’t-they? Are they, aren’t they?”

“I also think it’s really great to portray the beginning of a romantic relationship with two people our age. Just because you’re over 60 doesn’t mean you’re dead,” Gilbert said.
Jack Wagner spoke with Access Hollywood and described what it was like to work with Gilbert.
“I wouldn’t say it if it wasn’t true, but it was a delight on several levels. One, she’s wired like I am,” Wagner said. “She loves to rehearse, she loves to go over the dialogue, and she looks for new things, so we hit it off like that immediately. We collaborated on the scenes, trying to figure out the backstory, what the moments should be, and where they should be. Two, she’s really normal. I love that part of her, you know, it was very normal being around her and I think also rehearsing when a new cast member comes in and just rehearsing and collaborating I think it helps as actors.”
Hearties who are also fans of LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE couldn’t believe their luck when Hallmark announced Gilbert as a guest star this season.
“WHEN CALLS THE HEART has long drawn comparisons to LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE, for its charming and compelling stories of hope, human connection, and frontier survival,” Kelly Garrett, vice president of Hallmark Media programming, explained.
