How Many DC Movies Should Fans Expect Every Year?
By Movieguide® Contributor
DC Studios head James Gunn set the record straight on how many movies fans can expect from the studio per year.
“Are we getting 3 dcu films every year in Chapter 1 or not?” a fan asked the director on Threads.
Gunn’s response? “No way. That was never even a consideration.”
When some fans expressed confusion, as five DC projects have already been announced, Gunn explained his comments further.
“Just to clarify, I said everything we originally announced was still in development,” he wrote on Threads. “Not that it’s still coming. That all depends on the scripts! [We’ll] never put a…script in production just because it was announced.”
In another Threads Q&A with fans, Gunn wrote, “Nothing is ‘in production’ unless it’s been greenlit. Right now, that’s SUPERMAN, SUPERGIRL, PENGUIN, PEACEMAKER, LANTERNS, and a handful of animated projects.”
“But PARADISE LOST, like many other titles known and unknown, is still in very active development – it will be in production once we have a script or scripts we think are great and ready to shoot, never before,” he continued. “As an aside, we aren’t officially cast on anything that isn’t greenlit.”
Gunn has previously shared his plans for future DC projects, including whether or not he will return to the director’s chair.

His latest movie? SUPERMAN, starring David Corenswet in the starring role, which hits theaters next summer.
Details about the movie’s plot have been kept under wraps, but Variety reported that it will tell “the story of Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice, and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”
Gunn recently shared some information about SUPERMAN, including how his real-life pet inspired a character in the movie.
