Actress Jenn Gotzon Fights Hollywood Beauty Lies by Looking to God

By Movieguide® Contributor

Actress and co-author of a new book, Jenn Gotzon, combats Hollywood and the mainstream media’s lies that say women’s worth comes only from their outward appearance.

Her book, “Beauty & Likes: Experiencing God’s Truth about Your Looks,” provides “emotional security so that young adults can discover their inner beauty and the sincere love of God in a social media world. We provide a biblical, transformative journey based on psychology for the teen mind,” the publisher’s description reads.

For Gotzon, the secular world’s idea of beauty impacted her life and how she viewed herself.

“I went through a divorce, and all that pain echoed into me thinking my ex didn’t like me because I wasn’t thin and pretty enough,” she revealed.

It wasn’t until Gotzon fully dove into who God is and began to understand what it means to be created in His perfect image that she could get past her own flaws.

“During this healing time…I brought every painful memory I could remember to Jesus, and praised God,” she said. “After several months of focused prayer time, I truly have found freedom and healing.”

“It’s kind of funny, I went the complete other direction where now I don’t care what I look like and just focus on having a kind and joyous heart using the gifts God has given me to pour into those however I can,” Gotzon added.

“When our hearts are closed and we don’t believe we’re God’s masterpiece, that’s the biggest problem. We have to first start by opening our hearts,” she told Movieguide®.

“When you look in the mirror…looking and feeling unworthy…You can say over yourself ‘I am God’s masterpiece.’ My body and soul are marvelously made,” she added.

However, most girls and women struggle to believe that truth.

A study on body image found that “50% of young 13-year-old American girls reported being unhappy with their body.” That 50% then grew to 80% by the time the girls were 17 years old.

Because of these staggering statistics, Gotzon released her book and also contributed to the documentary WHAT IS TRUE BEAUTY?

“We are in a world where 90% of women, starting at age 5, believe this lie, ‘I need to be beautiful to be loved.’ Join our star-studded conversation identifying the cause and hands-on application of overcoming the pressures to obtain the perfect physical appearance,” a synopsis of the documentary reads.

Gotzon is remarried and has two healthy young children. Her book aims to have young people experience a “complete revelation and freedom from all the ridiculous pressures social media, culture and peers.”

Movieguide® previously reported on Jenn Gotzon:

Jenn Gotzon, creator and star of the family-friendly movie THE FARMER AND THE BELLE: SAVING SANTALAND, recently partnered with SALEM for a new documentary about identity and beauty, WHAT IS TRUE BEAUTY?

SALEM’s General Manager of SalemNOW/Salem Consumer Products and Director of Digital Media, Robert Ellis noted that SAVING SANTALAND had an important message about identity.

“We are mission first and grateful for the hundreds of thousands of people inspired by our message on biblical beauty like this one we recently received: ‘I want this for my daughter to always remind her of that her worth is solely & wholey found in Jesus & NOT the world!’” Ellis said.

Jenn Gotzon also narrates the project.

“My heart is broken by the lie culture tells girls we have to look a certain way to be accepted. I pray my personal story shared in ‘What is True Beauty?’ will bring hope to millions,” Gotzon said of the documentary.
