Jenny Marrs Shares Story from ‘Crazy’ Travel Day: God ‘Had a Plan All Along’
By Movieguide® Contributor
HGTV’s Jenny Marrs recently took to Instagram to share her story of a diverted travel plan that turned into a sweet and memorable trip.
Marrs posted a video of clips from the trip and explained the ordeal in a caption.
“Continuing to reminisce on working and traveling back and forth to Italy…one of our most wild travel stories from the year had to be the time our plane flew into the wrong airport and the airline bussed us to the other airport to meet the plane and we were stuck overnight in Paris. If you’re going to be stuck somewhere, it may as well be Paris!”
Marrs most recent show, FIXER TO FABULOUS: ITALIANO, began airing on March 12, and she and her husband, Dave, have been traveling to Italy for the show. An HGTV synopsis says, “Dave and Jenny journey to Italy’s Tuscan countryside from their hometown of Bentonville, Arkansas, to revitalize a grand villa for longtime friends. The six-episode season documents the Marrs, who first visited Italy as newlyweds, as they execute a monumental restoration of the centuries-old property.”
Marrs continued her post by sharing a sweet connection she made in Paris.
“We ended the night at a small corner café and noticed the sweetest older lady at the table near us. She was alone and had finished her meal by the time we arrived. She just sat there, watching life around her as couples dined and talked and came and left. There was something about her that reminded me of my beloved Grandma Shirley. As the meal went on, we asked our (very kind) waiter to bring her a drink on us. She brought her coffee over and joined us at our table.”
Using Google Translate, Marrs was able to have a conversation with the woman.
“We listened to her stories of growing up in Paris, the war, and her family,” she said. “We didn’t understand most of what she said but we felt the passion with which she spoke. She shared about losing her husband three years ago and we all teared up. We connected without a common language and Dave and I both felt she just needed to share her stories. It was a memorable evening that I’ll never forget.”
Marrs concluded by explaining how, in the midst of a crazy trip, God had a bigger plan.
“This is why we travel: human connection. It’s truly life-giving to be seen and heard and known. And, it seems to me, when I’m the most out of my comfort zone, that’s when I’m the most open to connection. I’m so thankful we sent that coffee over. It was a little reminder from God that He had a plan all along for the crazy travel day. Even though I just wanted to get home to my babies, we were absolutely supposed to be in that little corner table that night and I’m so thankful we were. ?”
The final episode of FIXER TO FABULOUS: ITALIANO aired last night.
“This year was certainly full of [blessings],” Marrs said on Instagram of the show. “Looking back, I’m full of deep, deep gratitude for each and every one.”

Dave and Jenny Marrs are taking their home renovation skills across the world for their new show FIXER TO FABULOUS: ITALIANO…
“Overall, it was a stressful project,” Jenny explained. “If we were just helping our friends remodel their house in Italy, it would normally take two or three years. But we had a production schedule to meet. We had to try to get everything moved up quickly. That was the biggest challenge, trying to hit those production deadlines with an Italian crew.”
Despite the challenges the Marrs’ faced, Dave said they would do projects like this again.
“We love to focus on new projects and things outside of our comfort zone and do something different,” he said. “Europe for HGTV is an untapped market. I think to see us over there in Italy, Great Britain or anywhere doing a project, I would love to. It’s all ratings-based, so if a lot of people watch this, and it does well, we’ll see.”
