Jessica Simpson: ‘I am Very Proud of My Faith’

By Movieguide® Contributor

Jessica Simpson celebrated her 42nd birthday with a heartfelt post about growing older and taking pride in the person she has become.

“I am very proud of my faith, resilience and strength over the last 4 decades,” Simpson wrote. “Everything in my life that has or hasn’t happened yet makes turning 42 very exciting because I know what it takes personally to remain inside of DETERMINED PATIENCE.”

Simpson’s pride in her faith is shown through her public statements about her faith.

In the wake of #BlackoutTuesday on social media, entertainer and fashion designer Jessica Simpson said that she has “resilient faith” and that love is greater than fear.

“I have been taken to my knees in prayer time and again over these last days. I am listening to the testimonies crying out. I am hearing God’s anointed power in the hearts that are steadfast,” said Simpson. “I am hopeful that God will deliver the souls of the righteous who are crushed in spirit. I have resilient faith that anything hate can do, LOVE can do better. #BlackoutTuesday

Simpson’s dad was a pastor in Texas which shaped her start in the entertainment industry. Though she’s publicly discussed her struggles with alcohol and other secular issues, her faith often plays a role in her career choices.

“Prior to her career as a pop star, Simpson was on the path of singing Christian music,” CheatSheet.com reported. “Due to her curvy statue, she was viewed as ‘too sexy’ to sing faith-based music and record labels passed on signing her.”

Simpson also turned down the leading role of Ally in THE NOTEBOOK because of the sex scene.

However, Simpson still had a whirlwind singing/ acting career with projects like EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH and THE DUKES OF HAZARD (2005).

Years ago Simpson told Vanity Fair, “I live off the faith that has been instilled in me, that has never left.”

The “I Think I’m in Love” singer added, “We all go through trials, but not one thing has ever made me question God.”

Simpson is a mom to three children with her husband Eric Johnson.

Simpson is also celebrating her continued sobriety.

Movieguide® previously reported on her third year of sobriety:

Earlier this year, Jessica Simpson released her first memoir titled Open Book, in which she candidly shared about her struggle with alcohol addiction. She called being sober for almost three years now a “big blessing,” according to Fox News.

As the 40-year-old singer, fashion designer, and actress approaches the three-year mark, she recalls the moment she decided to stop drinking. Simpson said she wanted to be there for her three children and saw how alcohol was hindering her from being the mother they needed.

“I was at that point in my life where my kids were growing older and they were watching every move that I made and I just really wanted clarity, I wanted to understand myself,” Simpson said.

Simpson remembered a defining moment in 2017 when she drank early in the morning on Halloween and missed being with her kids the entire day.

“I was terrified of letting them see me in that shape,” Simpson confessed to People magazine. “I am ashamed to say that I don’t know who got them into their costumes that night.”

Simpson said that some friends worried that quarantine would affect her and that Simpson would be at a higher risk for relapse. However, Simpson remains confident in her sobriety as she nears her three-year anniversary, a milestone she calls a blessing.

“People are like, ‘Don’t you want to drink during this pandemic? Aren’t your kids driving you crazy?’” said Simpson. “I’m like, ‘No, I do not want to drink.’ I have not wanted it. I feel like that’s a big blessing.”
