JOURNEY TO BETHLEHEM Cast Sends Special Message to Fan with Down Syndrome
By Movieguide® Contributor
Following a red-carpet premiere of JOURNEY TO BETHLEHEM, the cast sent a special thank you to Macy, a girl with Down syndrome who attended the event.
“A couple weeks ago our family got to go to a Red Carpet event and see the movie JOURNEY TO BETHLEHEM before it was in theaters. We all loved it so much, but maybe no one as much as Macy. She is obsessed,” Macy’s family shared on Instagram. “Well, the actors who played the main characters, @fionapalomo who plays Mary and @milomanheim who play Joseph, got wind of Macy’s love for the movie and they sent her personalized messages.”
“What’s up Macy, it’s Milo here, AKA Joseph, and I just wanted to say I heard you love the movie, which makes me so happy. Fiona’s also ecstatic,” said Milo Manheim. “We love you so much. Everybody in Spain says hello.”
“Hi Macy, it’s Fiona, AKA Mary. I don’t have my long pretty hair for the character, but I wanted to say hi to you, and I wanted to tell you that I’m so happy that you love the film,” added Fiona Palomo.
JOURNEY TO BETHLEHEM earned a +4 content rating from Movieguide®. Part of Movieguide®’s review reads:
JOURNEY TO BETHLEHEM is a great musical with lots of jeopardy and some funny comic relief to lighten the mood. The songs are really good, and so are the performances. Although this is a musical version of the Nativity Story, the filmmakers treat the birth of Jesus with the proper reverence it deserves. The script and song lyrics refer to Jesus as Lord, the Son of God, the Messiah, King of all kings, Immanuel, and “God with us.” JOURNEY TO BETHLEHEM is one of the most enjoyable, uplifting movies of 2023.
Macy was so excited to get these messages from the actors and was at a loss for what to say. After she collected herself, she shared her love for the movie one more time, telling everyone to go see it in theaters.
Macy and her younger brother August were both born with Down syndrome. Realizing there was a negative perception of people living with the disorder, their mother, Heather Avis, created The Lucky Few Foundation to raise awareness about the disease and bring dignity to those who live with it.
They do this primarily by telling the stories of people living with the disorder to help others recognize that their lives have value.
Since the foundation was established 15 years ago, Avis has helped change people’s mindset about Down syndrome and created communities for families supporting those with the disorder.
While Down syndrome is rarely talked about in the media, former BACHELORETTE star Emily Maynard Johnson has been sharing her love for her son who was born with Down syndrome in 2021.
