Kathie Lee Gifford Can’t Wait For First Grandchild: ‘I’m Going to Get Excited the Day That Baby Is in my Arms’

Kathie Lee Gifford shared her excitement for her first grandchild and what it’s like to become a grandmother later in life.
Gifford’s son, Cody, announced in December that he and his wife Erika are expecting their first child.
“You know what, I’m not excited for me, weirdly. I’m so excited for my son and his wife, and for my daughter, who’s gonna be an aunt,” Gifford said. “I’m just sort of watching it all. And I’m going to get excited the day that baby is put into my arms. I don’t know if it’s a boy or a girl — they don’t know and they don’t want to, they’re doing it the old-fashioned way.”
Gifford also talked about how her late husband, Frank Gifford, would feel about becoming a grandfather.
“It’s funny, I was saying to my son last night that, ‘Daddy would be so happy, honey, with so many things going on in our lives. Daddy would be — daddy’s smiling,'” she shared.
Even though the baby isn’t here yet, Gifford already decided what she wants to be called. Initially, she had picked “Glamma,” but has now chosen another nickname.
“I have a dear friend whose mother is from Israel and she speaks Yiddish, so I asked her one day, ‘What’s the name for a Jewish grandmother in Yiddish?’ and she goes, ‘Well, it comes from the word Bubbeh, which means my darling.’ It’s a [term of] endearment, so she said it’s Bubbeh,” Gifford explained.
Movieguide® previously reported on the pregnancy announcement:
Kathie Lee Gifford will soon be a grandma! The former TV show host took to Instagram to reveal that her son, Cody Gifford, and his wife, Erika Brown, are expecting a baby.
The Movieguide® Visionary Award Winner shared a video of the couple dancing at their wedding. The clip then cuts to a positive pregnancy test and ends with an announcement that the baby is due in June of next year.
The scripture James 1:17 is also displayed in the announcement: “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.”
“I am over a blue or pink moon!!!” Gifford captioned her post. “I don’t care which. So so happy for you both, @mrsamerikagifford, and for our family. Praise our Living and Loving God!”
