While the franchise already built a major following with the original movie, ZOOTOPIA 2 is yet another family-friendly sequel that has found more success than its predecessor. It’s not surprising why.
Following Judy Hopps, a rabbit cop, and her sidekick Nick Wilde, a fox, as they work together to solve the mystery of Gary De’Snake, “ZOOTOPIA 2 is an action packed, heartwarming fantasy adventure with loads of laughs and great animation,” Movieguide®’s review reads. “It has a strong allegorical Christian, moral worldview. It stresses doing the right thing, even if it means sacrificing your life, working together, seeking truth and justice, and overcoming differences through love.”
Movieguide® notes that “ZOOTOPIA 2 has a few implied adult jokes, two light profanities, and scary scenes of peril in the movie’s often exciting and comical action scenes. So, MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for younger children. We suggest ages six and above are more appropriate.”
Along with its Disney+ success, “ZOOTOPIA 2 is also the eighth highest-grossing film ever and the No. 1 domestic release of 2025,” Deadline said. “The first movie, ZOOTOPIA, ranks as the No. 7 movie on Disney+ of all time and has been one of the most-streamed movies across all platforms in the U.S.”
It got a lot of recognition during this awards season, including receiving the BAFTA Award for Best Animated Feature as well as Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations. Movieguide® nominated it for its Best Movie for Children Teddy Bear Award®.
“The film also marks the fifth title from Walt Disney Animation Studios to surpass $1 billion globally – a landmark achievement in the studio’s storied history,” Disney celebrated.
Fans love the movie for its relatable themes, a priority for the creatives.
“I think reflecting the world that we live in is important in all the films that I’ve done and that I worked on,” said producer Yvett Merino. “It is a big priority of mine.”
“We love that the audience wants that from these films. They expect social awareness to be part of what these films are about,” added director Byron Howard. “We also want these movies to end on a note of hope, saying the world is a very complex place, but we have each other. So we never wanna sugarcoat it. It’s a tough life to go through, but we have each other and this idea of differences actually bringing us together is really key to ZOOTOPIA 2.”
With its fun, family-friendly themes, it’s no surprise that ZOOTOPIA 2 keeps dominating.
