Keanu Reeves Says This About Death. Pastor Responds with Gospel Message.

Pastor Greg Laurie took to Instagram to share his thoughts on a statement actor Keanu Reeves made about death.

“Keanu Reeves in one of the most successful actors in Hollywood,” Laurie began. “Some estimate his fortune to be beyond $300 million with films like THE MATRIX series or the JOHN WICK series. But recently, he was being interviewed and he had some interesting reflections on the topic that a lot of people don’t want to talk about.”

While it’s a topic most don’t talk about, it’s certainly something everyone thinks about at some point.

“I’m 59, so I think about death all the time,” Reeves said in the clip. “I mean I think thinking about death is good. Hopefully it sensitizes to an appreciation of the breath we have and the relationships that we have the potential to have.”

Laurie continued, “You know, the statistics on death are quite impressive. One out of every one persons will die. So, the real question is not if we’re going to die, or rather, when are we going to die, and I think even the more important question is what happens beyond the grave.”

The JESUS REVOLUTION inspiration mentioned how back in 2005, Reeves said in an interview that he was going to “work” to get into heaven.

“Here’s how you have the hope of heaven,” Laurie explained. “You don’t work for it; the work has already been done by Jesus Christ when he died on the cross and shed his blood for all our sins and gave that statement ‘It is finished.’ There’s nothing I can do to earn salvation. It’s a gift of God that He offers freely to everyone out there. The really big issue about death is what happens beyond the grave. What happens in the afterlife?”

Laurie explained that there’s a heaven and hell and shared a personal message with the actor.

“Jesus loves you. He has a plan for you. I’ve read a number of articles talking about how generous and kind and how down to earth of a person Keanu Reeves is, and I think that’s fantastic, but the most important thing is that you come to Christ and say ‘Lord, I know I’m a sinner, and I know you’re the Savior, and I choose to believe in you.’ That’s not just for Keanu Reeves, that’s for everyone.”

Reeves has spoken about his spirituality in the past. “I’m not saying that I’m an atheist; I’m not saying that I’m not a believer. I really don’t know,” he said in 2019. He’s previously said that he’s a “respectful Buddhist.”

While the actor looks for salvation outside of Christ, Romans 10:9 says, “If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”

If you are unsure of where you’ll be in the afterlife, the Bible gives us clear instruction on how to know for sure. Confessing your sins and putting your trust in a God who loves you is all it takes, and it is a choice you can make today.

Keep Reeves and his salvation in your prayers as he considers what comes after this life.

Movieguide® previously reported on Reeves:

In TOY STORY 4, Keanu Reeves joins the cast as Duke Kaboom, a dare-devil, motorcycle stuntman.

The Hollywood veteran says the movie holds a special place in his heart.

“Through the course of the film, which is often the case in TOY STORY, there’s healing,” Reeves tells Movieguide®.

“It’s healing through the friendships, the companionship, the adventure, the task, you know, there’s a lot of kind of teaching moments; but also, through character and through love, that wound is healed,” Reeves said.
