Kendrick Brothers Share Stories of Salvation, Emotional Healing After SHOW ME THE FATHER Screenings

By Jessilyn Lancaster, Managing Editor

Alex and Stephen Kendrick released their first documentary, SHOW ME THE FATHER, along with an updated COURAGEOUS LEGACY to address the father crisis facing the country. In response, people are accepting Christ and pursuing emotional healing for the father wounds in their lives.

“We have had theaters were a pastor would stand up and give an invitation at the end of the theater,” Alex tells Movieguide®. “It happened recently with SHOW ME THE FATHER where you have many men going forward saying, ‘I want that relationship with God that I saw on the screen,’ and that have given their hearts and lives to Christ.”

According to the Movieguide® review:

SHOW ME THE FATHER is a wonderful, inspiring documentary. It tells six emotionally powerful stories about fatherhood. Four stories involve two football coaches who mentor four young men from broken families to become better men and better fathers. Another story tells how God performs a miracle in helping a man and his wife find the perfect daughter to adopt. A sixth story shows how an older man overcomes a serious bout with depression to bless his own three sons.

SHOW ME THE FATHER is a must-see movie. It will brighten your day and inspire you. The filmmakers let the people involved tell their stories. It intercuts these segments with great visual aids and archival footage that move the story along. The emotionally powerful stories ultimately lead to three great heartwarming, surprising twists. SHOW ME THE FATHER has a strong Christian, biblical worldview, with many great biblical references. Just as good, if not better, the movie overtly stresses that Jesus Christ is the visible image of God the Father. As Jesus says in John 14:7, “Anyone who has seen Me has seen the Father.”

This message resonated with one man in particular who was at a showing the the Kendrick brothers.

“[There was a] security guard that was in standing on the side of wall watching SHOW ME THE FATHER, and at the end came forward, and we were in the room at the time, asking us about how to have a relationship with Jesus Christ,” Alex said. “I mean that stories like that kind of go on and on, but we love the fact that people can relate to the people on the screen. In the case of SHOW ME THE FATHER, it’s because these are true stories. They walked these paths and people say, ‘Man, my dad was like that. He either hurt me, or he wasn’t there for me or, you know, I was adopted.’ And people walk through and have a deeper understanding of God as Father.”

SHOW ME THE FATHER and COURAGEOUS LEGACY are now available for digital purchase and DVD.

The brothers are hoping the movies’ wider availability will continue to inspire young men to follow Christ as husbands and fathers.

“[Being a husband and father] is the driver’s position on the bus,” Stephen tells Movieguide®. “God calls men to step up in leadership. The seven roles that dads are to play parallel the seven roles that God the Father plays in the lives of His children. Dads are supposed to be providers, protectors, leaders, teachers, compassionate friends, encouragers, even willing helpers in the lives of their kids.

“When they don’t do that, it leads not only a wound, but oftentimes, leaves the families in the ditch. The common denominator of kids in prison, on drugs, that are trafficked, dropping out of school, suicidal teens, is fatherlessness. If we can help them to step up and be not only loving involved fathers, but leading by example, it will solve a bazillion problems in the lives of their kids, but also in the next generation,” Stephen continued.

“SHOW ME THE FATHER and COURAGEOUS LEGACY both give you examples of what it looks like for dads to say, ‘Hey, I don’t have it together, but I’m going to start stepping up in the lives of my kids.’ We try to present fatherhood is a noble honorable position. It’s not something that you’re turning away from, but you’re embracing it and loving it. Because one of the best parts of the day for me is my relationship with my kid. What a treasure and a joy to get to pour into them! If you look at the statistics, and if you look at the scriptures, both of them point to fatherlessness as a crisis, and loving fathers in the church are stepping in to take care of the fatherless as the solution,” Stephen said.

The Kendricks also revealed that they are already hard at work on their next project.

“We’re now editing it, and welcome blessing on that as well. So we were jealous for any prayers that anybody’s willing to give us,” Stephen said.
