Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre celebrates something even more important that on-field wins now; he praises God for his salvation and abilities.

“For more than 20 years I put my hands up in celebration on the gridiron,” Favre wrote on social media. “Now, I put my hands up to the One that gave me all my talents and abilities — the King of my life, Jesus Christ.”

“I’ve never claimed to be perfect, but my aim is for the direction of my life to honor Christ and I pray my faith increases,” he continued. “So I do want to wish you all a Merry Christmas, whether you’re solo, with family, or friends, and if you haven’t done so, put your faith in Him who can save, Jesus Christ.”

Favre concluded the post with the Bible verse Ephesians 2:8-9, which talks about how we are saved through the grace of God.

“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast,” the verse reads.

In 2019, Favre spoke at the annual convocation at Liberty University. He discussed his most memorable game of his entire career: taking to the field in 2003 soon after his father’s death.

“The question was not if I could play; the question was if I could play in a way in which I honored my father that no one could understand,” he said at the convocation. “I prayed so much leading up to that game…and I just wanted to play in a way to make my father proud.”

In just the first half, Favre had over 300 passing yards.

“What I realized later after I retired as I think about that game is that I, and maybe you, have oftentimes said, ‘God, show me you’re real, just for me, just for a second,’” he shared. “You look for these signs and you never see them when they’re right in front of you, and for me the sign was how I played in that game.”

In 2024, Farve revealed his Parkinson’s diagnosis. Though he hasn’t spoken about it much, he recently shared how he’s doing.

“…as I’ve learned, the Parkinson’s that I have has three different characteristics,” Farve described, per Fox News. “One of those three you’ll have as the dominant side effect. It’s cognitive and memory is one. Shaking and tremors is two. And rigidity and stiffness is three. I major in the rigidity and stiffness.”

“So, when I wake up in the morning before I take my medicine, I’m as close to a 2 by 4 as you could possibly get. And once I take my medicine, it’s like the muscles and the joints kind of ease their grip on me,” he continued. “When I get fatigued, mainly toward the end of the day, I do shake a little bit. My cognitive memory – part of it, right now it’s OK. As you well know, there’s no cure. I hear from time to time, ‘Well, they’re five years away from a cure.’ I hope that that’s the case. But I’m not holding my breath.”

While the Christmas season has come and gone, it’s never to late to put your faith in Christ, as Farve encouraged his fans.
