20-Year-Old Actress Thrives on Her Farm: ‘I Love It’

Millie Bobby Brown says life on her Georgia farm with her husband is where she “thrives.”
“I’m not doing it [farm life] for the aesthetic. I’m doing it because I love it,” the 20-year-old actress told Vanity Fair. “There are maybe some trad wives [a type of homemaker influencer] out there doing it because it seems wholesome, but it is not.”
Brown joked, “If you’re not picking up horse [poop] or washing a cow with your bare hands, then that life is not made for you. At all.”
The STRANGER THINGS star shared that things can get chaotic on the farm, which houses dozens of animals, but there’s no place she’d rather be.

“You think animals are peaceful. You think the South is peaceful. You think this place is peaceful. But there’s so much chaos,” Brown said. “My animals are loud, and it’s messy and my dogs are crazy. And there is, you know, laughter and a lot of passion and excitement, and it is a very vibrant place. There is so much chaos, and that is where I thrive.”
Brown and her husband, Jake Bongiovi, use their farm as a rescue home for dogs that are in kill shelters, housing them in her barn. She’s also taking steps to improve her animal care skills, taking online classes in human services and veterinary studies at Purdue University.
“I’m able to treat wounds, take their pulse, moderate blood pressure, things like that,” she said. “I do all their medical records myself. Adoption campaigns are wonderful temporarily, but you really have to get in there and do the work to make a difference.”
In a 2024 interview, Brown called her livestock — including calves, dogs, chicks, donkeys and goats — her “babies.”
“There’s a bond. I bottle fed all of my babies,” she told iHeart Radio. “So all of them know me as ‘mum.’”
Brown added, “You come from a premiere and you think you’re on top of the world and then you go back home and I’m shoveling donkey poo. There’s really not much else to it. I mean that is truly what grounds me I’m like ‘Oh yeah they don’t know who I am nor do they care. They just want me to feed them.’”
Brown also recently gave a rare glimpse of her marriage to Bongiovi. The pair tied the knot last year.
“We were pretty united going into it,” she said of the decision to get married. “We talked about our political views, what kind of family we want to build, the kind of home we want to live in, the kind of relationship we’re looking for, the kind of careers we want. It’s such an important decision, and we wanted to make sure we were making the right one. I knew I was. It always felt right with him.”
