Newsboys Move Forward With New Music After Michael Tait

By Movieguide® Contributor

Following the retirement of singer Michael Tait from Newsboys, the band revealed they have experienced God’s faithfulness as they prepare to release new music.

“The last six weeks have been quite a journey, but through it all, God has continually shown His faithfulness to us,” the band said in an Instagram post. “We are excited about our future, just the four of us.”

Adam Agee, previously of Stellar Kart and Audio Adrenaline, has picked up some of the writing for the band.

“We also have been working on new music this month, and we can’t wait to start sharing it with you! Our first release of 2025 is a new version of How Many Times, which was the first song Adam wrote when he joined the band,” the post continued. “Newly titled How Many Times (oh how You love me), this version feels like the right song to share first as we enter this new season… Thank you for the love and support, it has meant the world to us!”

Tait had been with the band since 2009, taking over the role as lead singer from Peter Furler. In an Instagram post announcing his departure he revealed that he felt the Lord calling him to move on from the band, though he is not sure where his next steps will take him.

“While this may come as a surprise given I’ve been touring ever since college, I’ve made for me what is a monumental and heartfelt decision that it is time to step down from Newsboys. This decision does not come lightly and has been a shock to even myself, but amidst prayer and fasting, I have clarity that this is the right decision,” Tait wrote when announcing his departure from the band.

“As we are reminded in Matthew 6:33, ‘But first, seek His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well,’” Tait continued. “I truly believe these words and although [I am] nervous about the future, I am excited about what it holds for both myself, and for Newsboys as we all seek first His kingdom and His righteousness.”

The remaining members of the Newsboys expressed their support for Tait as he moves on from the band, and have announced that they remain committed to the plans they made before Tait’s departure. Their World Wide Revival Nights tour remains on schedule with plans to bring their music to audiences across the world all year.

Movieguide® previously reported on Newsboys:

The Newsboys released their first albums in 1987, and nearly 37 years later, they’re still as strong and successful as ever.

“I think our longevity is a testament to our hearts and where we are as people, because it’s very uncommon in any genre that a band would stay together for over 30 years,” pianist Jeff Frankenstein told The Christian Post this month.

“I think that one of the cool things about Christian music, as opposed to pop music, is that we all know deep down that music affects people and has a purpose and God gave us that gift,” he said. “In a pop music situation where everything’s about you and your career, you can see why those things flame out so quickly, because they’re just based around either people’s egos or just selfishness. In this situation, we all have a common purpose where we know that music can really change people, because we’ve seen it happen.”

Frankenstein and two of the other members have been there from the start, while lead singer Michael Tait joined about halfway through their journey. Recently Adam Agee also joined the group.

“We’re one of those bands that is in a rare situation where we have a black lead singer and then we’re white guys, and we have people from Australia and people that work in our office from other countries. We’re a very kind of multicultural band,” Frankenstein said.
