The NFL and X, formerly Twitter, recently renewed their content partnership under an expanded multiyear deal.
“X will continue to delight users with NFL in-progress game highlights including all touchdowns moments after they happen in the game,” the official X account posted. “Under this multiyear deal extension, the NFL and X will bring even more custom content for brands to sponsor in the form of co-branded highlights, sponsored Spaces, polls, and other creative formats. Let’s go!”

X CEO Linda Yaccarino was thrilled by the announcement, sharing her delight to continue to partner with one of the largest sports organizations in the world.
“A dream team of epic proportions!” she responded to the announcement. “Whether you’re at the game or streaming it live, the energy from fans is contagious on X – sharing the thrill of every tackle and touchdown as it happens.”

The renewed agreement came only days after X announced it is developing a TV app to increase the reach of the platform’s video content.
“From the small screen to the big screen X is changing everything. Soon we’ll bring real-time engaging content to your smart TVs with the X TV App,” Yaccarino revealed on April 23. “This will be your go-to companion for a high-quality, immersive entertainment experience on a larger screen.”
Along with the announcement, Yaccarino provided teasers for the features smart TV users could expect, including an AI-powered search and organization tool, improved video search, a trending video algorithm and seamless integration with phones through the ability to switch between viewing videos on mobile devices and TVs.
While the timeline for the commercial rollout of the smart TV app is unclear, it will likely be available soon as prototypes of the app are already available. Despite the platform’s very public money problems, the app is set to release ad-free but plans to introduce them later.
“We’re focusing on launching this new feature for consumers first, but we do plan to monetize it, and will discuss different forms of partnerships – and that may include ads,” X said in a note to its corporate partners.

This update isn’t a surprise.
“X has been moving toward video for months, announcing a number of partnerships with the likes of Tucker Carlson and Don Lemon to produce original video content, though the latter’s show on X was canceled before it began after Lemon interviewed Musk,” Forbes reported.
Tech Crunch explained that the app launch is part of the company’s “efforts to turn the social media site into a free-speech ‘video first’ platform.”
Like YouTube, the platform will let users upload their own videos but has also “cut deals with some third parties, like a multiyear deal with Range Media Partners,” per The Hollywood Reporter.
