Great American Family’s latest original drama, NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE, is all set to premiere on GAF this Saturday, Aug. 17, at 8/7c.
Movieguide®’s synopsis of the movie reads:
NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE is a sports drama streaming on Pure Flix. It follows former NBA prospect Scott Beck, who’s 39 years old and works as a janitor at his former high school. Beck learns that his ex-girlfriend now owns her father’s professional basketball team, the Silver Knights, and is holding open tryouts to play professional basketball. Despite his age, Beck takes a leap of faith and tries out for the team. However, a malicious owner and fear of failure are in Beck’s way. After a series of setbacks, Beck finds himself back where he started. Or, so he thinks. Will he trust in God’s plan or his own?
PureFlix co-founder and Teddy Bear Award® Winner David A. R. White takes the lead as Scott Beck. He told Movieguide® that the heart of the movie is about “second chances.”
“It is a movie about never giving up,” he said. “With everything that’s going on in our society and all the hurting people and everything going on in our world, I think it couldn’t be better for such a time as this; to encourage people through the powerful medium of film. I’m very thankful that NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE does that.”
The movie covers the theme of trusting God’s timing. It’s a story that’s relatable and made to mirror real life.
Robert Amaya, a fellow Teddy Bear Award® winner who plays Nick Martin in the movie, told Movieguide® how he relates to his character.
“I think Nick is a kind of character even though he’s a jovial, funny, fun guy. He really wants something, he has his dream inside of him that he has always wanted. In this case, he wanted to be a pastor,” he said. “But in real life, I’ve had dreams, I always wanted to be in the music industry, for example. And when that didn’t pan out a long time ago, I thought that my dreams were shattered, I’d never be able to do anything in this world.”
“One of the things I love about this script is that it’s a great metaphor,” Amaya told the American Family Association. “On the surface, it’s about doing or accomplishing the impossible, but what it’s really about is redemption. And as we know, redemption is an impossibility without Christ.”
Stella Parton, who plays Ruby, thought Amaya brought a brilliant comedic aspect to the movie.
“I thought [Amaya] was so funny in this movie because he was like the cheerleader of the struggling guy over here and to me, I think you should be able to laugh at everything,” she said. “Even as a Christian, you should be able to have a sense of humor and to me, there was plates of little nuggets in there that made it funny and entertaining but thought-provoking and very relatable to anyone going through a struggle I think, with their spiritual life, their personal life, their love life. You know, all of that. So I think it touches all the bases.”
Amaya, White and Parton all agree that the movie’s message is entertaining, encouraging and inspirational.
White said, “There’s just such a positive message about never giving up, and that no matter what has come against you, in your relationships, in your family, in society, just keep going forward, keep making the jump, keep moving forward. So I love this movie. And I got to work on my son in this movie, which is super cool.”
Part of Movieguide®’s review of NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE reads:
NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE is a lighthearted story about faith and perseverance, with powerful scenes of prayer. The movie tells an inspiring story of God’s faithfulness, the importance of a church family, and overcoming failure, but sports fans will notice inaccuracies about the sports scenes. However, NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE is an uplifting, family-friendly story that teaches timeless truths from God’s Word Written, the Bible. MOVIEGUIDE® advises light caution for pre-teenage children for some adult themes.
