Former NFL running back Matt Forte talked about how hard, but rewarding, it is to obey Jesus, even though the storms of life are still going to come.
“The disciples, you know, actually could have tried to avoid the storm by not obeying what Jesus said. But He said, ‘Let us go to the other side.’ So they got in the boat. They were like, ‘Okay, let’s go to the other side.’ They obeyed what Jesus was saying,” Forte said on an episode of the “Sports Spectrum” podcast.
“So what that tells us as well is that even in obedience, you can literally be walking into a storm that is something that may seem counterintuitive to what you may have learned growing up, or may have learned spiritually,” he continued, “But you could actually obey God and be like, ‘You know, I’m trusting in the Lord. I’m doing what He’s asking me to do,’ and you walk into something that is an actual storm in your life, and that’s when you’re like, ‘Whoa, whoa. God, I’m doing what you told me to do. Why is this happening?'”

Forte talked about this topic in his book, Stay
During Super Bowl Sunday this past year, Forte had the opportunity to share his testimony at Willow Creek Community Church in South Barrington, Illinois.
“My faith in Christ and the Word of God has been the foundation of my life long before the NFL, through every season, and still today. One thing I know for sure: I am not the final product. God is still building me in my purpose,” the former athlete said.
“1 Corinthians 3:11 reminds us that the foundation has already been laid, and that foundation is in Christ. What we build on it and what we build with matters,” he continued. “Football gave me a platform. Faith gives me purpose. Be intentional about the foundation you’re building on. Seasons change, platforms fade, but Christ remains. Build on Him, and you’ll have something that lasts.”
It isn’t always easy to obey and trust God, even though the storms of life are going to hit, but Forte knows that without God’s help and guidance through those storms, he wouldn’t know what to do or how to handle them.
