Sony Announces ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE Soundtrack Concert

By Movieguide® Contributor

Sony Pictures and the Academy Museum have partnered up for a live orchestra concert of SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE’s score.

The event will feature music from the Oscar contender’s soundtrack, composed by Daniel Pemberton, as well as appearances from producers and screenwriters Phil Lord and Chris Miller, directors Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers and Justin K. Thompson, producers Avi Arad, Amy Pascal and Christina Steinberg, screenwriter Dave Callaham and soundtrack executive producer Metro Boomin.

“Metro’s songs and Daniel’s score create a groundbreaking and vital aural portrait of Miles Morales’ world,” Lord and Miller said. “Daniel is a relentlessly inventive composer who circuit bends new instruments for new worlds — creating five unique musical approaches for each universe that he wove into a unified symphony. Metro’s standout songwriting and production aims not just to be authentic but to elevate the struggles of Miles and his family to something lyrical and lovely.”

They continued, “Ultimately, what makes Daniel and Metro’s music so memorable is its emotional intimacy. It draws us into the story. It falls in love, it says goodbye, it stands and fights. We love it because it loves us back.”

A portion of the Movieguide® review reads:

SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE is a creative, exciting, funny animated superhero movie. It has several unexpected twists that add to the viewer’s enjoyment. Happily, ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE also has a strong pro-family theme. For example, there are heartfelt scenes of love and reconciliation between Miles and his parents and between a Spider-Woman character and her father. Also, a Spider-Man from another universe and his wife have a new baby. Finally, an early image shows a family holding hands and praying together. That said, SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE has lots of PG action violence and brief foul language. So, MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for older children.

ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE was the follow-up to blockbuster SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE.

It was one of the highest-grossing movies of 2023, bringing in over $690 million worldwide, per Box Office Mojo.

ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE’s success was largely due to its family-friendly and moral content. Movieguide® reported:

It’s no secret the new film SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE crushed opening weekend.

Senior Media Analyst at Comscore, Paul Dergarabedian, told Variety, “It’s really rare that sequels increase their box office. Usually, the law of diminishing returns applies.”

Yet again, Variety missed the key element made ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE such a smashing success: Moral, pro-family values. For more than 40 years, Movieguide® has advocated that movies with more moral content do better in the box office than their excessive counterparts.

For ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE, those moral values include a strong pro-family theme, a scene of prayer, and the value of every life. At the time of this writing, SPIDER-VERSE has generated more than $120 million at the box office, landing it in the top 10 box office results for the year.

SPIDER-MAN: BEYOND THE SPIDER-VERSE was set to hit theaters spring of 2024, but the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike has it indefinitely postponed, with Deadline explaining, “That pic requires a number of voiceovers and won’t be ready in time.”
