New York Giants quarterback Jameis Winston believes “gratitude is the key to abundance.”

“When you don’t necessarily get what your heart desires, you revert back to what you’re grateful for, and I’m grateful for the people that God strategically put into my life to allow me to get to where I am now,” Winston shared on the “Sports Spectrum” podcast.

The athlete, who began his NFL career as a starting quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, is now a third string for the New York Giants. Even though his career has not gone in the direction he hoped for, Winston is grateful for every step that God has brought him through.

“Sometimes, like, I will say, you know, I want to win that Super Bowl. But my Super Bowl is knowing that I made my aunt Vonda proud. You know, knowing that I made my little brother a follower of Christ because the way that I walk,” Winston continued. “You know, my Super Bowl could be knowing that me and my boys are gonna have a great relationship for the rest of their life, you know.”

“So when dealing with disappointment again, you find that seed of good in everything, right? Because that decision, the power’s in the decision. So if you decide to focus on what you didn’t do, you got to be grateful for what was given to you,” the quarterback emphasized.

Winston said that it’s easy to get mad at God for not answering our prayers, instead of focusing on His un-asked-for blessings.

“I talk to my teammates about this all the time, you know, like we sometimes get heated and we get mad because God didn’t answer the stuff that we prayed for,” Winston said. “But we never thank God for the stuff that He gave us that we didn’t pray for, right? So it’s so much that we can be grateful for. And I think disappointment gonna come. Like, shoot sometimes we might fall short of what we want.”

Winston brings his faith into all he does, including his social media posts. In March, he shared Isaiah 40:31 on X. The verse reads, “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

Even though we have many plans for our lives, God determines our steps. Like Winston, we should make an effort to thank God for His faithfulness in all areas of life.
