Taylor Momsen, who played Cindy-Lou Who in THE GRINCH, shared how working with Jim Carrey inspired her to take her passions seriously and work to achieve her dreams.
“I just love that he was very protective of me,” Momsen said. “He was always very kind. And just the entire experience of filming GRINCH and getting to know him so well, even in all the makeup, was just wonderful.”
“As a young person watching an artist at work and taking their craft so seriously, that left a really powerful, lasting impact on me as an adult now. And I’m excited to be able to tell him that as a grownup,” she added.

The pair were reunited for the first time in 25 years at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony on Nov. 8. Despite starring in a movie together, their reunion was also one of the only times Momsen has seen the actor in real life without his prosthetics on.
“To me, he was always Jim and he was always in makeup,” she previously recalled. “He was very protective of me, very kind, super funny, super animated, absolutely awesome. But the funny thing is I never knew what Jim Carrey looked like because I never saw him because he was there way early doing the prosthetics. I didn’t know who Jim was until the premiere [of THE GRINCH] and someone had to point him out to me and go, ‘That’s Jim.’”
The same may be true for many kids nowadays, as THE GRINCH remains and extremely popular holiday movie. Despite some scenes that could be intense for young viewers, THE GRINCH delivers a positive story that speaks to the power of forgiveness, love and redemption. A portion of Movieguide®’s review reads:
HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS is an entertaining family fantasy. This movie retains the central message that there’s more to Christmas than presents and augments it with tremendous visual and special effects. Although the story includes some romantic worldview elements, it is clear that there is sin in Whoville and that people need repentance and forgiveness. The production values here are a wonderful treat, but many people may be disappointed about the lack of specific references to Jesus Christ in this Christmas offering. The movie also includes some infrequent scatological humor and some slapstick violence that parents should warn their children not to imitate
Though the movie is 25 years old, Carrey has shared his thoughts on a sequel, especially now that technology has advantage to the point where he may not need to wear such intense prosthetics.
“You know, if we could figure out the Grinch [I would love to reprise the role],” Carrey told Comic Book in December 2024. “The thing about it is, on the day, I do that with a ton of makeup and can hardly breathe. It was an extremely excruciating process. The children were in my mind all the time. ‘It’s for the kids. It’s for the kids. It’s for the kids.’ And now, with motion capture and all things like that, I could be free to do other things. Anything is possible in this world.”
While there don’t seem to be any real plans to create a sequel to the movie, it was fun to see Carrey reunite with Momsen and hear what working on the movie meant to her all those years ago.
