Award-winning artist Tasha Layton’s newest track, “Meet Me In The Valley,” came from her time spent at the bottom of Death Valley.
“I spent three days camping out and fasting alone at the bottom of Death Valley…there’s a reason they call it Death Valley. There is nothing there. I mean, no water source. Nothing to eat. I mean, it is literal desert,” Layton told CCM Magazine.
Completely alone, the singer could only rely on God.
“I did not anticipate some of the things that I would encounter there. I think the fear alone was pretty overwhelming. As I looked out in this valley…I couldn’t see anything for miles and miles,” she reflected.
In that isolation, Layton found the words for “Meet Me In The Valley.”

Some of the lyrics read:
What You said on the mountain
Is still true in the valley
Surely goodness and mercy will follow me, follow me
All You’ve said on the mountain
I’ll believe in the valley
Surely goodness and mercy will follow me, follow me
Oh, meet me in this valley
Come meet me in this valley
I need You, Lord
I need You, Lord
Layton shared her experience in a short documentary also titled MEET ME IN THE VALLEY.
“We’re either exiting a valley in a valley, or heading into a valley. That’s just life,” Layton told CCM Magazine in a video shared on social media. “The beautiful thing about songs too is that, you know, music bypasses the brain.”
“I stand out at the table every night after events and shows and different things, and I listen to people’s stories, and the way music touches them in their journey is pretty incredible,” she said. “They’re not having to think through it; their brain’s not having to work. It’s just going straight to their heart.”
“That’s my prayer for this song. Verse two says, ‘If this is where the broken things are brought to life, then lead me through the wilderness, but don’t leave my side.’ My prayer is that people will come away inspired to get with God and to take time to sort through like, what do I need to acknowledge? What do I need to heal from? How am I needing to silence the noise in my life to?” she added.
What a powerful reminder that God is with us even in the valleys. Be encouraged by “Meet Me In The Valley” wherever you listen to music.
