Minnesota Vikings Player Declares His Faith: Jesus ‘Died For Me’

The Minnesota Vikings are sharing their favorite things about their favorite people, and one player had a very good answer.

Joshua Metellus, the Vikings’ safety, interviewed his teammates for “Tell Us With Metellus,” asking them, “What’s your favorite thing about your favorite person?”

Most of the players spoke about their wives, with long snapper Andrew DePaola saying his favorite thing is “how forgiving she is,” while placekicker Will Reichard shared, “How selfless she is. She’s just what keeps us together. She’s our rock.”

“She’s just amazing,” safety Camryn Bynum said of his wife. “She’s a people person…she’s always looking out for the best interests of others. She’s a woman of God, and I love her.”

Defensive end Levi Drake Rodriguez had a different answer for his favorite person, though.

“I would say, Jesus Christ,” Rodriguez told Metellus. “He died for me. Not many people can say that.”

Rodriguez often speaks about his faith.

In an interview with Vikings.com, the football player said, “I’ve always been in church, but 2017 is when I really found Christ.”

“I was at a camp called Crooked Creek with Young Life,” Rodriguez shared. “This guy just gave a sermon, and he said to go outside. I went outside. I was in Colorado, and it was cold out there. I only had shorts and a little sweater on and I said, ‘Lord, make me warm.’ He just made me comfortable, so that was cool. But as humans we want more, so I was like, ‘God, show me a sign.’ I said, ‘Thank you, but show me a sign. Actually, show me a shooting star.’ All of a sudden, a shooting star goes right behind the mountains. A blue-green shooting star. It was life-changing. It was at that point that I knew I had to give my life to Christ and to work for him, ultimately.”

Rodriguez also credits his family for his faith, explaining, “Without them, I wouldn’t know God. Man, my dad and mom have played a huge part in that, and they’ve let me navigate my own relationship with Christ, as well. I’m very grateful for that.”

He also shares his faith on social media.

Rodriguez captioned a recent photo of himself on the field with scripture, writing, “‘COMMIT TO THE LORD WHATEVER YOU DO, AND HE WILL ESTABLISH YOUR PLANS.’ PROVERBS ‭16‬:‭3‬.”
