You Are on a Rescue Mission — Tim Tebow Explains Why
By Movieguide® Contributor
While speaking at a Passion conference, Tim Tebow reminded Christians that once they are saved by Jesus, they join His team and are on a mission to share the Gospel.
“Jesus came to do for us what we could not do for ourselves. And He did a real good job at it. It was a rescue mission, and we needed a rescuer. And He rescued us spiritually,” the former NFL star said. “If you know Jesus, you have been rescued. But I want to tell you something. Did you know that once you’ve been rescued, you’re now on the rescue team?”
“If the world were to look at your actions — not what you’ve said, just what you’ve done — would they look and say, ‘Man! He’s living like he’s on a rescue team. Man! She’s living like she’s on a rescue team.’ What does it mean when you’re on a rescue team? It means there’s urgency, and you’re living on somebody else’s timeline, not your own,” Tebow continued. “When’s the last time you heard of a rescue mission taking place in five years? You don’t. They don’t exist. Rescue missions mean now — there’s urgency and you’re not living on your timeline, you’re living on somebody else’s.”

This reminder is incredibly important as it often gets glossed over, despite being a crucial aspect of the Christian walk. One of Jesus’ final commands to His disciples was to “go and make disciples of all nations,” a calling they performed with great urgency and fervor. Their commitment to this command resulted in the early church’s fast spread.
Tebow tangibly lives out this call as he works to rescue those trapped in human trafficking.
“We have to do everything we can to protect them,” he said of human trafficking victims. “To bring them out of this horrible evil and put them in a position where they can flourish, knowing their worth, and their value, and experiencing the faith, hope, and love that so many desperately deserve.”
As Christians today, we are stilled called to the Great Commission and need to seek opportunities to share the Gospel with those God has placed in our lives, whether it be with our friends, family, coworkers, classmates or sports teams. As Tebow points out, we also need to live out this call with our actions, not just our words. This means donating our time, resources and money to further the kingdom of God as well.
