What You Need To Know:

DANCER AND THE DAME is a comedy that focuses on police detective Rick Dancer, who’s been relegated to clerical duty. As a result, he’s become grouchy and egotistical. As part of his re-training, Dancer is partnered with Princess, a high-maintenance police dog, while he tries to renew his career. Princess is recovering from post-traumatic stress from seeing her partner die in action. The first case Dancer and Princess have concerns a man who pretends to be a philanthropist but is secretly a criminal.

DANCER AND THE DAME is a fairly well constructed comical mystery, with some witty dialogue, well-cast actors and solid production values. It boasts a good performance by Billy Gardell of TV’s MIKE AND MOLLY. Prayer and other positive moral elements (such as selfless loyalty and heroism) help give the movie considerable redemptive value and will touch the heart of families. Parents should be aware that DANCER AND THE DAME has some surprisingly violent, intense moments that warrant caution for younger children. Otherwise, however, DANCER AND THE DAME is a fun family adventure with great lessons and other positive qualities.

Content:

(CC, BB, VV, M) Strong Christian, moral worldview, as an unlikely bond forms between the protagonist and his canine partner, an antagonist guilty of greed and deception is brought to justice, the protagonist becomes less cynical and more caring, a prayer is spoken where pride is confessed and urgent help is requested, and an act of near self-sacrifice happens during the climax; no foul language, but a “b” word spoken during protagonist’s favorite TV show is barely bleeped out; dog twice has a flashback where her former partner is shot to death with a machine gun (no blood is shown, but holes are seen in his chest), a bunch of characters get knocked out with punches or objects such as a pan (one is said to have been sent to a hospital after being rendered unconscious), villain shoots someone in the foot, dog pounces and bites at bad guys, a car explodes when rigged with a bomb, a character is wounded by gun shots; no sexual content; no nudity; no alcohol use; no smoking or drug use; and, protagonist often releases his temper by making sarcastic wisecracks, protagonist extorts information from someone, protagonist lies when questioned by an FBI agent, villain’s scheme involves importing counterfeit money, some name-calling such as “pinhead” and “tool” is heard.
